We have one at work which we use for actual 'science'. We are making custom things that would cost an arm and a leg to get manufactured for us. Especially convenient as you can adapt the drawings as you go.
That being said, you cannot print anything too big, or too small... and there are some limitations with the shapes you can produce. Also, prepare to sand the fuck out of the final product, depending. Different sides will have different texture thanks to how the plastic is deposited, some of which might cause damage to finer cloths.
But stuff like brooches or 2D armor decorations or small dangly bits... should be doable.
