3D printing is still a ways off before it becomes the cornacopia machines people envision them as.

Strength of material used to build for one, price for two, and precision for three are all things thar have long way to go yet.

But man am I excited for it.

Yeah the industrial contactors if 3d printed (assuming you could) would probably last a very short time the material couldn't handle the stress of use

Nothing like waiting 2 days for a quote for "ho here and do totally standard stuff to totally standard device that does not have a maintenance contract cause we're cheapskates"

That is when I use my purchasing card on Amazon and ask for forgiveness later our finance department does not exactly like me sometimes even though I am always within budget

3D printing is still a ways off before it becomes the cornacopia machines people envision them as.

My brother is heavily involved in the 3D printing and CNC industries... suffice to say the rate of progress is somewhat shocking.

There's a 'rent a 3D printer and learn to use the software' space near me. Next time I have a costume with something I can't/don't want to sculpt, I am totally going to see what I can do.

There's a 'rent a 3D printer and learn to use the software' space near me. Next time I have a costume with something I can't/don't want to sculpt, I am totally going to see what I can do.

We have one at work which we use for actual 'science'. We are making custom things that would cost an arm and a leg to get manufactured for us. Especially convenient as you can adapt the drawings as you go.

That being said, you cannot print anything too big, or too small... and there are some limitations with the shapes you can produce. Also, prepare to sand the fuck out of the final product, depending. Different sides will have different texture thanks to how the plastic is deposited, some of which might cause damage to finer cloths.

But stuff like brooches or 2D armor decorations or small dangly bits... should be doable.
