Who will win the duel, the ronin Mayakashi or the hero, Hiruma Kazuma?

Kazuma wins, though his sword breaks during the battle with the tainted ronin. He takes her blade and beheads her, but finds that his anger at the Shadowlands and everything they have stolen from the Crab unsated. Unknowingly wielding the Bloodsword Revenge, he returns to the Crab and petitions his Champion to give him the troops he needs to launch a preemptive attack on the Shadowlands.

Kazuma wins and beheads the tainted ronin. Recognizing her blade as a weapon of evil but lacking the knowledge to destroy it, he leaves the Bloodsword in the forest in the hopes that it will fade into obscurity. Fate is merciless, however, and the blade is discovered by one of the Naga. The Bloodsword twists the Naga's mind until all it can think about is revenge against humanity for the death of its people. The corrupted Naga's thoughts bleed through the Akasha, worsening relations with the Empire as the Naga become more and more obsessed with revenge.

Kharmic Strike. Kazuma and Mayakashi murder each other in the depths of the forest. Their bodies are eventually discovered by a group of Forest Killer bandits, and, after numerous internal betrayals, murders, and thefts, the Bloodsword Revenge finds its way into the hands of Zetsumei, the leader of the Forest Killers. With the sword's power at her beck and call, she begins striking more aggressively into Scorpion lands to punish them from the things they did to her as a child.

Mayakashi wins and devours Kazuma's soul... which has been strengthened by his time in Yomi and his powerful Name. Her strength increases significantly, elevating her from a Lost samurai into one of the dreaded Akutenshi. Drawn to the Nezumi by the strength of Kazuma's Name, she butchers the Rememberers of the Tattered Ear Tribe and forces those who remain to serve her as the Stained Ear Tribe.

Mayakashi wins and mortally wounds Kazuma. Instead of killing the Crab hero, she cruelly cuts her hand and allows her black blood to drip down into the unconscious Crab's open wounds. When he awakes days later, Kazuma has no explanation for why he still lives. He begins the slow, painful journey out of the Shinomen and back to Crab lands, unaware of the corruption that has taken root within his soul.

Crab Poll: The Bloodsword

Last autumn, Yasuki Yashiki was attacked by a lone assassin who left dozens dead in her single-minded hunt for the Yasuki daimyo. What the assassin did to Yasuki Takara was worse than death, and her own guards had to put the twitching lump of flesh she had become out of its misery.

Since that day, the Crab have been hunting the murderer, a ronin swordswoman named Mayakashi who had been sponsored by the Yasuki family for the Emerald Championship the previous year. The Kuni and Hiruma have had little luck in tracking the ronin down... until now.

The Crab hero, Hiruma Kazuma, has succeeded in tracking Mayakashi down with the help of his Nezumi allies. The depths of the Shinomen are the only witness to their epic duel... but how will it end?



For the purposes of this poll, all of the "Kazuma wins" and "Mayakashi wins" votes will be tallied to determine which samurai wins. The most popular option of the winning decision will be the final result.


This poll will remain open for two days.

Why do I feel that the most positive seeming result of attacking the Shadowlands is going to end a double edged sword like the old Kisada sword in the gut storyline?

Oh, I fully expect the plan of sending Revenge against the Shadowlands to backfire spectacularly, but I just love the idea of it! :D
