[Usagi Tsukimi]

Description:
Tsukimi is a fair woman, young and lithe, she moves with practiced ease but always seems to be looking over her shoulder. She dresses well but not fancy, prefering ashigaru armor, as well as keeping her distance, even in conversation, stands just outside of what is considered approachable. She has a nice smile, and a pure heart.

Background:
Family were ronin. Mother died in childbirth. Father could not stand to look at her, so gave Tsukimi to his sister- her aunt- to raise her. Her aunt Yusayo joined the Hare shortly after the clan's inception. They were looked down on, but Tsukimi's aunt was a proud and strong woman, and raised Tsukimi as her own.
She was an eager study, learning how to wield a sword as soon as she was able. She is a sincere young woman, unable to tell a lie, and pure of intention. She is athletic, taking on the way of the Hare and excelling at sport. She is also a dancer, moving with grace.
Wanting to make her aunt proud, she was voluntold she would be attending the miai when it was announced, the Hare wanting her to make herself useful. And so she goes.

Kemuri is out riding at the moment. He spends much of his time exploring and hunting in the new lands of the Unicorn, trying to connect the region to the histories that have been passed down to him. As part of the Marta family, it will be his task to maintain the history of the Unicorn. While he is still learning that history, he takes the duty very seriously. He is proud of his clan and all that they have accomplished, but is clearly uncomfortable with the boastful nature of some tales. He appreciates that some facts may be more appealing with some added color, but won't allow the chronicle of Shinjo's children to be painted incorrectly.

Kemuri is good natured and friendly, if a little socially awkward. He is much more comfortable riding and is a competent archer. He possesses a keen memory and a sharp eye. The young man has the potential to be a great warrior and an asset to wherever his marriage may take him. If the likelihood of leaving the Marta family bothers him, he has not shown it. Nor, has he shown excitement at the idea of joining a NE family.

He's a bit scarred on the right side of his face, where his eyepatch with the Unicorn Mon on it covers up the worst of it.

The eldest surviving child and heir to Shosuro Uruwashii, Yawarakai bears a beauty common to the Scorpion. It is not so striking as the Bayushi, yet undeniably appealing none the less. Slim, slender, yet physical enough to not just be lanky. Youth still touches his cheeks and shoulders, for he is not quite finished growing, but he is certain to make a handsome figure once it is done. Now Yawarakai is governor of the Painted City, at least in name. He has authority, though most of the day to day administration is done by advisors who are helping him as much as they are teaching him the role for his mother's behalf.

• Are you familiar with the courts at Shiro no Shosuro? If so, you would have met Yawarakai before he became an adult.
• Are you a student of the Bayushi? You might be a classmate or peer of his then, though for the last phases of his training he returned home both for personal reasons and to matriculate amongst the Shosuro.

Appearance
A childhood within the Shadowlands was not enough to shun Kitakuhime's blessings. The girl surely maintains her modesty tightly strapped within the usefulness of the attire used by Unicorn during so many years at the Dark Ride. Yet, when experimenting the different dresses, clothes and makeups the Empire has to offer –– as directed by the Ide and some Dragon Clan friends –– there's trouble. Almost a grown lady, Kitakuhime is happy to try new clothes that fit her properly and please Family, Clan and Emperor.

History
Otaku Kitakuhime is the eldest of 4 sisters, and the only one available for marriage –– since she just recently passed her gempukku. The young girl rode alongside her Clan during the arduous years crossing through the Shadowlands, where she saw many monstrosities and plenty of death during her upbringing. Kitakuhime is closely related to the Otaku Daimyo, and understands she must marry and become an example for the Empire.

[Iuchi Saksaha]

Iuchi Saksaha is a young woman of medium height, with deep dark-brown eyes, broad high cheekbones, and a golden skin tone that all speak (to other Unicorn, anyway) of strong Ujik-hai ancestry--though her face and small hands are much less tanned and weathered than those of many of her kin on the Moto side. Her voice is light and just slightly husky around the edges; like many Unicorn her spoken Rokugani is perfectly fluent but carries a vaguely archaic accent.

Most of the time, Saksaha dresses in what the Unicorn would seem to consider a priestly style—high-collared and tight-sleeved wool robes unobtrusively slit for riding, embellished with a lot of colorful embroidery, trailing ribbons, and bright metal and stone beads. As best as can be discerned under all that wool, she has a sturdy but generously curving build--the picture of a nomad maiden in the flush of youth. Outdoors her hair is always worn in a knot or at least a simple braid, never loose, lest the plains wind blow her luck away.

A handful of charms dangle from cords around her neck and from the embroidered belt at her waist, which also holds her wakizashi--a serviceable thing in an ebony saya--and a pouch of beautifully tooled yak leather dyed to a deep purple shade. Around camp, she's sometimes trailed by a well-behaved but rather absurdly devoted little white goat, which she addresses as Fiyanggu, "Tiny" in one of the Ujik-hai dialects.



Fellow Unicorn might know that even as a child, Saksaha had a reputation as a spirit-walker, one of those who dreams true dreams and can carry signs to and from the mysterious realms of the spirits. Of course, such gifts are not without price--and their bearers are sometimes said to be a bit touched in the head.

Facts about Butaj:
- Butaj is a cheerful, smiling man that likes company of people and anything festive. He always has a skin of kumis for you!
- Butaj performs whenever possible! Sings, tells stories, plays on instruments, dances, does tricks with items and on horseback. He enjoys bariqu wrestling because people like to watch it!
- Butaj doesn't like hard work. Fight hard, compete hard, party hard, yes! But menial things heimin do? Not so much. Butaj may go fishing, but even then he prefers to take a nap. Cooking may be sometimes fun though!
- Butaj is not an unhandsome man! He is strong and agile, and has a charming smile. The way he shaves and plaits his hair is very nice indeed! He also wears leathers and furs a lot, so that makes him smooth and fluffy... in perspective!
- Butaj may speak with heavy accent and mix up Rokugani and Ujik-hai, but has a wonderful, versatile voice! He can do all things with that voice, but Ujik-hai throat singing (and a bit of ventriloquism) is the most impressive!
- Butaj has a beauitful, pitch-black horse called Huludai! Huludai is a show-off, just like Butaj!
- Fellow Unicorn know not all is shiny about Butaj though. All can see he is a bit different, rounder eyes, bigger nose, more hair, olive skin... He is a bastard, not recognised by his mother's husband, and the Moto have no love for him. The other Unicorn treat him better, but never let him forget that he is a bastard. Butaj doesn't allow this to wear him down though! He has no blame in being who he is, so he carries on with a smile and just looks out for a good place for himself under Shilah. Or Amaterasu. Take your very own Butaj home!

[Fairuz Kaiya]

Kaiya is a very curious fellow. His eyes are often drawn either to whatever book he's found to read this time, or studying a Go board to figure out some unorthodox strategy (that sometimes even works!), or just in quiet contemplation of a seemingly mundane object to understand its mysteries.

The young Fairuz seems to almost always have a smile on his face even when he isn't lost off in his own little world, though his shifts from 'intense focus' to 'easily distracted' may be off-putting to some.

Hotaru is admittedly a woman shorter than most people, ranging under the average viewing tilt when it comes direct facing in conversation. She has a rather slight and compact form when it comes to her build, unlike some of her more defined kin in the Bayushi, coming more off as "cute" (with quotes) than provocatively enticing. As a result, she finds herself favouring fashion that allows her to sport more layers whenever possible. She has a personal love of sporting lavish haori coats over her usual outfit or junihitoe kimono on more formal occasions. In addition, she adores embellishments to her outfits featuring tassels, hanging netsuke and golden trim when fashionably suitable. Given her professional duties as a shrine maiden, it's not uncommon to see her sporting outfits that hint that vocation, a show of white robes or red hakama.

She often wears her hair down neatly without other additions, save for a dyed streak of red to accent it. On more formal occasions, she may tie it to a typical maiden's horsetail. She favours masks that circle around her right eye, either an intricate golden mask or a detailed red mask. When she does wear a scent, her scent of choice is a sandalwood note, vaguely reminiscent of the fragrant earthly wood of the temples.

Hotaru appears to be friendly, receptive and approachable. She's eager to talk to others and help them however she can in her traditional duties or expertise. Her smiles often make an appearance, bright and welcoming. Her tone of voice is chipper, although showing restraint as if she doesn't want to spoil the plot of a play she had already seen, it's only proper.

Description: Yukarin is fairly traditional looking for a Unicorn, possessing pale skin, long black hair, and dark brown eyes. The clothes she wears have slight gaijin influences, but are definitely styled after traditional clothes a priest or mystic might wear. Underneath her robes is a slight but pretty girl, not too skinny but certainly waifish with the build of someone who doesn't do much manual labour. The two things that stand out the most to a traditional Rokugani as different would be her love of jewelry and her expressiveness. The former shows up in the form of a large necklace, earring, bracelets, and various charms on her person. The latter shows up in her near lack of On, smiling brightly usually but not afraid to hide when she's sad or upset.

Write-Up: While Iuchi Yukarin may come from a family of mystics, dress like a mystic, and decend from a line of famous mystics, it does not take long with the girl to figure out she is not a pious little priestess. Instead she is a gregarious and outgoing courtier with her mind on her money and money on her mind. Appearing cute (if not somewhat pretty) and kind on first blush, spending more time with her reveals a somewhat scrappy personality that enjoys jokes, stories, and music.

While Yukarin's parents are very supportive of her lifestyle, they recognize the miai as a unique opportunity for their youngest daughter to put her skills and dedication to good use for the Clan. And Yukarin couldn't agree more! Now if only she can find someone interesting...

Yukarin's ancestry is famous for it's shugenja, with both her parents and siblings being accomplished practitioners. She really is considered an odd duck.

By product of the Matsu and Ikoma bloodlines he was one of the first children born into the newest family of the Lion. He is considered to be well read and educated, and from a prosperous part of the Shimizu lands. That said it is said he gets along too well with creatures of the wild even for some of his beastmaster sensei's opinions and so when he volunteered to be part of the unicorn delegation they jumped at the chance.

[Soshi Bantu]

Distinguishing Features: Normally wears a strip of a mask that covers from just beneath his eyes to just above his mouth, concealing very little, but keeping to the letter of the Scorpion tradition.

Appearance
Slender and almost gangly, there is little physically appealing about Bantu at first inspection. He seems full of a nervous energy most of the time which makes him seem a little fidgety, but it seems to be something he can control with enough focus. His loose, shoulder length hair often blows in his face, strangely enough sometimes when there is no perceptible breeze at all.

History
Soshi Bantu was born to a very prestigious line within the Soshi family, a line that had produced an uninterrupted line of shugenja for over 300 years – until Bantu.

With the life of a shugenja denied to him, the first of his line to suffer such ignominy, he was shunned by his family and sent off to study with the Bayushi. It was there that he made the acquaintance of a young Ikoma Taru who was serving as part of a student exchange and the two became friends, with Bantu learning many things from the young man, including a love of reading and a latent talent for the game of Go. His time here gave him a sense of pride that despite his failing in his family’s traditional calling that he still might be able to serve his Clan.

His family though had other ideas. As a failure to the Soshi, Bantu was seen as expendable, and so to help cultivate alliances with the newly returned Unicorn, they sent him to the Dark Edge miai, a Scorpion just highly ranked enough to show they valued the hosts, but hopefully lowly ranked enough that he might never again return to Scorpion lands.

[Akodo Runno]

Akodo Runno is on the shorter side of average, though not so much as to impede her gait. She seems to prefer a simple style of clothing and grooming. Though Runno allows for long straight hair, discarding the utilitarian short cuts of many other Lion samurai-ko. One concession in an other wise mundane choice of appearance.

Of course minus the ostentatious distractions of a courtier, her posture and expression tend to be a greater focus. Perhaps in recognition of this, Runno generally keeps her visage taciturn and composed. Those who talk to her at length do notice a tendency for her eyes to lose focus or shift about when she seems to be in deep thought. Which is a disquietingly often event to most trying to hold a conversation.

[Matsu Kogo]

Kogo is a down to earth, outdoorsy person, who takes a little time to get to know people but is chatty when she does get to know them. She's pretty but not in a very styilized way. When pushed into her kimono and jewelery, she looks presentable, but she seems more herself outside, roaming with her war cat Noburu. Kogo enjoys hunting, exploring and is eager to try to the art of fishing. She's fairly curious about people, the clans and their histories and learning more, so she can stay inside and spend time with others if the conversation is interesting.

Young by all reasonable rubrics, Takeo recently earned his gempukku in a trial-by-fire scenario where he assisted his aunt and Champion in purging the remaining forces of Nomura no Oni. Throughout the campaign against the darkness, Takeo earned a reputation among the common people for ensuring they received the protection they were due as vassals of the Kitsune.

With the campaign complete, Takeo has been selected by Jume to attend the miai, a gesture of goodwill and faith in the renewed bonds of the Children of Shinjo - both those who left and those who stayed behind. An uncompromising man, even at his young age, Takeo's reputation for being a man of honor is known throughout his clan. Kind but immovable, he can seem overbearing at times, though those who have come to know him know he only expects everyone to perform to the best of their ability.

He is often accompanied by a small red fox named Asahi.
