[D1 LA] Short Lesson Before Dinner

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

That got a sharp, decisive nod from him.

"Then I will have to become fit. Even if it comes to pass that a bride returns with me to the Phoenix, I am sure that a posting can be arranged with space to ride. My old home would not do, of course, but I am certain I can arrange the right conditions." He glanced down at the horse again, then at the field. "Though...how much space does a horse need to be contented in? We've valleys in plenty in the more mountainous regions but not many fields so large as this that aren't in plant."

"I cannot think of a woman of my Clan who would be content without space to ride," she replied with a bright smile. "As for space, I would have to see what you speak of. Generally, though, they require space to be able to graze."

[Asako Yuki]

"We've been through much together," Fei answered as Gokiburi seemed to ponder Yuki's hand. After a short moment Gokiburi nuzzles at her hand, having made the decision for himself that the woman seemed friendly enough.

Yuki's smile turned into a grin as the horse nuzzled at her. "His nose is so soft." She whispered, mostly to herself, as she moved a bit closer to pat the horse and scratch at his chin. She figured that if dogs liked it, horses probably would too.

""How long have you had him, then? Since gempukku? Or was he the horse you rode when you were training?"

"Suuuure," she giggled once more, but like he did not push her on her weakness, she wouldn't push further there. That was friendship, after all.

"Do you know the two Bayushi though? Hotaru and Suteichi?"

He shook his head, "I don't. I don't know anyone here from my home provinces. I'll be sure to rip the stick out of the one's rear the next time I see him though."

[Asako Hirase]

"I will try to illustrate a bit for you, if you wished. I am no artist, but I have a certain rudimentary talent for it." He left of looking forward to look down on Liu Yue again. "Too, we need to arrange another lesson, do we not?"

[Usagi Tomoe]

He shook his head, "I don't. I don't know anyone here from my home provinces. I'll be sure to rip the stick out of the one's rear the next time I see him though."

Tomoe chuckled a little. "Good... just don't tell him I said he has a stick up there though. I think he was trying to play it off as being cool and aloof, you know, the kind that thinks they're better than everybody else. I bet he has a fake mustache he can put on and twirl when nobody's looking."

[Soshi Yuuru]

"In true Bayushi-style." He said with a chuckle and a nod.

"Don't worry Tomoe-chan. I won't embarrass you too much."

[Usagi Tomoe]

She snorted a brief chuckle.

"You better not. You're my friend, and our clans are friends too... I take that seriously, you know. That includes helping you out at this miai," she said, leaving it open to interpretation if she meant him or the Scorpion as a whole.

Yue nodded. "Another lesson would be prudent, yes. Perhaps you can bring your son next time as well?" She paused. "I should ride with your son instead of you, though. I wouldn't want two new riders in the saddle."

"I'll take all the help I can get." He smiled a bit. There was a part of him that did remorse Tomoe not being an available option, but he'd never let that show so easily.

His expression was steady as he held her eyes. "I would entrust the boy to you for a lesson, certainly. I will try to keep a respectable jog."

He paused, then admitted, "It will probably be good for me." His small smile appeared again.

"I tend to take him out in the early evening if I am not required elsewhere. On a day of your discretion, then."

[Usagi Tomoe]

"I'll take all the help I can get." He smiled a bit. There was a part of him that did remorse Tomoe not being an available option, but he'd never let that show so easily.

Just as there was a part of Tomoe that would have preferred to choose a friend she knew well, if fate had allowed it, but duty was duty... and she wouldn't give him the pleasure of saying it out loud!

"You're going to need it," she gave him a small wink.

"I'll tell my fellow Usagi to keep an eye out for a match good for you. She's a woman too, so you don't have to worry about competition from us."

He nodded, "And I'll keep an eye out for you when I can. What's your friend's name?"

[Usagi Tomoe]

"Usagi Tsukimi. She's one of our new warriors, had her gempukku not long ago," she said with some pride for her kinswoman.

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

"Tsukimi eh? I'll have to meet her sometime." He said with a nod. "I can always use some more bunnies dreaming about me."
