I feel good that I managed to pull three Mind Sculptors and then sold all three about two weeks before the ban notice hit. <_<

I lived in a place where the rare environment was straight up rare for rare. We never looked at prices for L5R cards, which was a big part in me liking L5R over Magic.

This was also my experience with trading rares in European tournaments.

Bring a binder of Rares with you, then people will shuffle through it and offer other rares to offer with... and then there were of course those people who just handed out Rares (I know I did!) to players who were asking for them, because well, L5R players were just nice that way.

... no, seeing what the prices ACTUALLY went up to, I feel like I hurt my costs. I sold at $350 CAD each... they were briefly selling for $1200 US each. *cry*

Where I live everyone was very stingy and tight fisted, ultra competitive too. It had to be value for value, and a binder full of rares they didn't need for their tournament decks were worth less than the cardboard they were printed on. Mostly just a group of a dozen or so guys focused on the current meta and winning tournaments.

It was almost the opposite of welcoming.

Heck, my first L5R rpg experience was with that group and they picked on me and my character because I was shy -_-

Just gonna say that I find the European scene in L5R to be absolutely great though. I think I had several rares and "rare" uncommons thrown my way at my first tournament. And after a couple of years, I started handing out Rares myself to new players. One year I made a set of 5 Rares for each Bottom Of Clan to be given out.

I didn't get much experience in with the CCG, never had a very active group, but I did enjoy it when I did play. The group kinda went to netrunner.

I played Crane favor stack, and crushed enemy armies with outrageous amounts of bow and immunity to damage, using the favor.

Then I got ALL THE HONOR for beating lion samurai to death with my 1F fan wielding courtiers.

They don't exist as great clans; it's before the time they were formed before - the Mantis officially formed as a great clan during/at the end of the Clan War and the Spider much later during (IIRC) the War of the Destroyer. We're back to before the Scorpion Coup.
