It's always neat to see the reasonings people can come up with. I know first hand that L5R has a lot of "That's nifty, it is now part of our mythos!" woth absolutely no real thought given.

Really, all I can recall on the stance is red meat is just considered unclean. No sourcebook or story says why. Reincarnation could be a reason. Suffering of higher on the wheel beings could be the reason. Necause the Kami said so could be the reason.

I like the speculation it brings.

Next topic that is neat to think about, why is touching bad, but all spells need to be touch normally?

Also, to further obfuscate things Japanese have decided that rabbits are birds, as they are both counted with 羽　(pair of wings) as opposed to 匹 (tails) that is used for small animals in general. My Japanese teacher (native, so probably clueless) speculated this was done to allow peasants to catch hares / rabbits for food without breaking the Buddhist codes.

If we go by real life languages the words you wan are 'satsujin' and 'murderer'. The -jin at the end implies person. Literally murder-person or... murderer.

殺人 (satsujin) does apparently translate to "murder" according to my dictionary of choice, though.. at least it's the Japanese wikipedia article that corresponds with the English article for "homicide". So person-kill?

Because apparently everything's gotta be confusing and they just add the other person implier of -sha to the end to get murderer, 殺人者 (satsujinsha). Person-killing Person? Seems to be true in Chinese as well from what I've seen.

I thought Butaj was the Butaj of Butaj.

Butaj is multipurpose; He can be a noun ("Butaj is fuzzy"), sure, and an adjective ("You look very Butaj today cousin."). But many forget Butaj is also a verb ("I am so going to Butaj that sushi later.") and an adverb ("He ate very Butaj after such a long day."). And don't forget an expletive (Butaj that's big!")!

Soon he will make strides into being a pronoun and conjunction as well.
