There have canon been Jedi who have withdrawn from the Jedi Order (Count Dooku, see also the Lost Twenty), and in the Old Republic-period, there are also instances of Jedi-lineages... like the Shan family (descendants of Bastila Shan and Revan), whom Jedi Master Satele Shan is a member of.

It's not a common thing, but it's not completely unheard of either.

As for Jedi retirement, yes some Jedi can simply leave the order of their own accord, some do so to get married, others may become disenchanted with it, some are kicked out. The Jedi unlike the Sith are not compulsory. Some Jedi leave to pursue politics, Jedi typically do not get involved directly with the political system. Many feel if they did they would in time become more like the Sith. They do enjoy a close relationship with the Republic Senate and the Republic military though.

Jedi lineages do exist like the Shan family though that is the exception and not the norm at this time. Jedi can marry but it's a process that has to be reviewed by the Council and is not allowed lightly. In general personal relationships of that kind are not encouraged for young Jedi, it's not terribly effective though.

Vatou is an ex-padawan of Master Garrick Lorne with no aptitude towards fighting. After he failed to achieve knighthood, the selkath decided to run an orphanage due to the war's increasing demands. He has proven to be adept at both administrative work and raising the kids under his care.

He received a message from the Jaw of Oblivion not long after their mutiny. The deal they concluded on was a routine meetup on Nar Shaddaa where the slaver crew could hand off the children to him. In return, all he must do is keep secrecy. However, Vatou is not a man of subtlety. Though he has tried to cover his trail, after a few years the pattern starts to reveal itself to anyone who cares enough to investigate the headmaster of an orphanage.

Side Jobs

There are many opportunities but the most mundane is to freelance for some quick work for pay. This takes two time slots and can be done once a day. The basic pay for this is 100 credits for this work. This requires a skill check versus Average difficulty, success on this roll nets 100 credits, a failure earns 50 credits for shoddy work. Each additional success increases this pay by 25 credits and each Advantage increases the total by 10 credit. Threat reduces the total by 10 credits and a Despair means you did so terrible you don't get paid at all. Triumph doubles the pay for excellent work.

Another way to make money is try your hand at Huttball, they pay 75 credits for amateurs and 150 credits total if you win, this includes the 75 credits. Playing Huttball can be done once per time slot.

Hm. Is Charm a viable option for a work skill?

Do multiple triumphs stack? Like, if I miraculously got three triumphs with my three proficiency dice in Charm, would that make for 8x pay? And is that on top of a triumph counting as a success for another +25/triumph before the 8x multiplier?

Be creative with the skills in the case of Charm maybe you work as a freelance consultant to do presentations or smooth over a deal with your charm.

I like to work on the assumption that art and performance fall under the general header of "charm," as charming is a valid goal for performance.

No, Huttball takes too much time it is one or the other for that time slot. The games are short but there is getting suited up, getting the field ready and then cleaning up the mess from the injuries... it's a whole thing.
