Luckily, most attempts at doing that would require going through either a) Scorpion or b) Crane land. While I don't know about the Scorpion, I think you can trust your blue neighbours to not let the Lion through unopposed.

This might be stretching out beyond what you can answer now but would that still negate some of the bonuses of the Kitsune?

eg. a Kitsune Shugenja marries into the say... Otaku a few months prior to game; would they create using the Otaku family name and bonus or the Kitsune bonus with Otaku name and/or be able to create a Kitsune schooled shugenja?

Most likely, the name bonus will disappear in the name of lesser confusion.
