As a player, I cringed giving out Bitter Betrothal. As Butaj, I had no other choice really, given the context. Butaj had exposed his feelings for Yuki to Hotaru and fervently prayed for them to be together following Hotaru's guidance, and then she destroyed it while in presence of quite a few other choices. From his perspective it was the most evil and un-priestly thing she could ever do, and practically led to collapse of his budding belief in Rokugani gods. Butaj had invested all his love, plans and hopes in marriage with Yuki, so it was close to the end of the world for him. That was grounds for Bitter. If his ties with Hotaru ever improve past the grudge, then I can even provide my xp to buy it off. At this point I don't feel comfortable to speculate openly what conditions would have to be met, after a week of trying to work out how best his marriage-in-all-but-name with Yuki could still be done.
