[Moto Butaj]

"Butaj sees meaning in both peace and war. He doesn't like mindless bloodshed but often force must answer force. Protecting the tribe is paramount. If it means taking from those who have much and won't share, so be it." A short creed sums up Butaj's philosophical ideas on pacifism.

[Asako Hirase]

"After tomorrow's choosing, I will tell you the story of how the Asahina came to be." It was one of Hirase's favorites, even if, in that story, it was the Crane who did what the Phoenix should have done. "It explains us very well, though it is true that for much of it the Phoenix is the villain."

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki frowned a little at Butaj's reply, but wasn't surprised. Still, at least it wasn't like Khulun. She nodded to Hirase. "That's a good one, though as Hirase-san says it is somewhat painful for a Phoenix." Yuki would love to tell the story of the Battle of the Broken Daisho, but unfortunately such an event would only happen 70 years in the future.

[Moto Butaj]

"If the Phoenix have wars you don't want, it will still need warriors like Butaj. Maybe even the Phoenix can have cavalry in Butaj's lifetime." Butaj nods at the stories to come, but he's too exuberant to be impressed on the political gravity of their content.

[Asako Hirase]

"In a way, we already do." Hirase chuckles. "It's just shugenja riding the power of kami, not men on horses."

[Asako Yuki]

"Best for getting to places quickly, but having competed in the Lancing competition, cavalry may be of great use in battle as well." Yuki stated with a small nod.

[Moto Butaj]

"See, Hirase? There's the two of us already." He smiles lovingly at his bride-to-be. "Priests are good, but they won't replace a horse and a rider."

[Moshi Asakiko]

The Moshi smiled. "Yes I..." She looked at the Kaiu singing and chuckled. Kaiu sama you are truly a remarkable man... You keep reminding me of Hida no Kami. "I think that traditionalist are more resilient to change that those with more flexible minds. They are considered stubborn or closed minded."

Taichi listened carefully to the Kaiu's song. At first it seemed like some sort of piece that was integral to Rokugani culture; something that he could learn. Then he heard the names and was a little disappointed. Still, it was a good piece well sung and he enjoyed it.

"I'm sure that people such as yourself, Matsu-san and I can change their minds. The Unicorn is back now - things will be different to how they were while we were gone. They'll come to understand, I have no doubt." He practically oozed confidence.

"We'll see but I hope that you are right." She smiled. "Your clan and the Lion have some common things... I suppose."

[Asako Hirase]

"Agreed." Hirase smiled, then said, "If I end up bringing a wife home, we'll be up to three, possibly. Her, of course, not me."

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki smiled. "We will have to work hard to make your horse farm a reality then, Butaj-san. I don't think three will be enough."

[Asako Hirase]

"Certainly Ichiro would be glad of that. He's been after me for a horse almost since we got here." Hirase chuckled. "Perhaps my bride will allow him to borrow until it can be arranged. Maybe he can be brought up with a foal, the way many Otaku are, neh?"

[Moto Butaj]

"Then we will, Yuki. Perhaps this is the good we can do for the Phoenix." He smiles affectionately. His facial expression has been monotonous like this for most of the day. "Ichiro has a good attitude to horses, getting him a foal early is a very good idea." Butaj nods with vigorous approval. "He doesn't have saddle fright."

[Asako Hirase]

"He doesn't have fright at all. I've been chasing him out of things, and off of things, since he started to walk strongly." Hirase's smile was both exasperated and fond. "Remind me, when we have more time to enjoy it properly, to tell you about the time he and some other children tried to ride the neighbor's cow."

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki pouted cutely as she remembered the little boy's antics of getting between Butaj and herself. "And he's certainly mission focused." She added, giving a knowing glance to Hirase.

[Asako Hirase]

The older Asako only smiled.

"He is a good, obedient child. I am well pleased with him."
