Actually Kaizen was going to be sent home because Dabo didn't want this vendetta from the Crane to be inherited by the Unicorn should Kaizen join them. So the duel was pretty much the only way Kaizen saw to fulfill his duty as a miai participant since if he won the matter would be dropped lose the duel and well he goes home double shamed instead of just shamed /shrug
