[Kakita Jinosoku]

Kaizen stood from his meditative position bowing to the Crane, he noticed the small gathering, but his focus was on Jinosoku, "Kakita Jinosoku-san." The Shiba bowed and said, "That you would follow me here and attempt to bar me from my duty is why I challenged you to the first blood. Though further that you would assume that this was the wish of Kakita Mariko-san and take her place only shows that you lack confidence in her own judgement and skills. Do you find this time and place acceptable?" Kaizen's voice carried none of its usual warmth and his eyes showed icy contempt.

"I only wished to inform the Unicorn of the sort of man they intend to marry to one of their own." He takes a moment to glance around at the assembled crowd. "I had not intended to settle things in this manner, but since you insist, we shall allow the heavens to determine your worth."

[Shiba Kaizen]

And with those words Shiba Kaizen assumed his stance Assessing his opponent.

[Shinjo Liu Fei]

While the Duelists made ready to perform their sacred art atop the raked sand, Liu Fei made sure to wave off any other standing too close to the central rings. Her, herself, stood just inside but out of the way of the duelists. Allowing herself to focus mainly on those who were about to draw steel.

[Kakita Jinosoku]

Jinosoku assumed his own stance, with his hand held palm-up above his sheathed sword, as if offering Kaizen a gift.

Kaizen focused on his opponent taking in the entirety of the man before him.

[Kakita Jinosoku]

In a blur of motion, Jinosoku draws his katana, steps forward, and slices off a portion of Kaizen's face, starting at his temple and running down along his cheek to the bushi's chin. It wasn't a particularly deep cut, but it still removed a good length of skin and immediately began welling up with blood. Oh, and pain. It hurt a lot.

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki frowned the moment that she knew, and then it was over with a particularly brutal blow. Her frown grew darker and she turned her attention to the magistrate to see if they would have anything to say about the blow, though there was no doubt it was within the bounds of legality, there was an undoubted cruelty to it.

[Seppun Hideo]

Hideo winced.

That looked painful...wasn't that a little far?

Ameka's fan snapped in front of her, and she pressed it to her lips, her brow furrowing. Oh, Shiba-san... This wasn't right.

[Isawa Nonin]

Nonin waited for the duel to be called officially over so that he could treat his clansman's wound.

[Shiba Kaizen]

Kaizen knew he was too slow, the blade of Jinosoku was too fast. The strike down his face felt like flame lancing through his skin. The blood began to issue from the wound as the Shiba fell to one knee.

He held onto his katana his grip tightening as if that alone held back the pain. Drawing breath he stood as blood flowed in a steady trickle. So this is what she felt. What I did in accident he does out of spite. He faced the Kakita knowing the weight of his failure. He would go home in shame, but this was at an end.

[Shinjo Liu Fei]

Fei was far from a magistrate, but she was more or less the witness here. Seeing as neither party faltered to surprise she stepped forward calmly between the two, looking to the Kakita, addressing him with due propriety despite his overly harsh action, "Kakita-sama, the day is yours."

[Kakita Jinosoku]

Jinosoku nods in confirmation. He steps back, bows to Kaizen, and then looks to Liu Fei. "If you will excuse me, it seems an appropriate time to visit the shrine of my ancestor."

[Shinjo Liu Fei]

"As is your right," she offers in turn. Bowing to the man.

[Isawa Nonin]

Nonin moves forward quickly, but not rudely, to help his friend. He quickly and efficiently sets to work. "It will heal cleanly, Shiba-san. Do you wish the touch of the water kami as well?"
