"I trust you entirely my love" Hideo said first, before adding "however...may I ask about Shiba Kaizen?"

"Who is that?" she answers without hesitation, genuine puzzlement in her eyes.

[Seppun Hideo]

"Those who seem obsessed with you referenced the man as someone you have been 'seeing'" Hideo clarified with a chuckle

She blinks in confusion, "I see many people, every day. I do not understand why this one man should be more significant than the others." Her mouth twists, "but I have not even met him."

[Seppun Hideo]

Hideo nodded, a smile on his face "I am thankful to hear that my love. I never once doubted you, just merely wished to ask where they would have got this poorly created rumour from."

[Ide Amaya]

Her expression darkens, her eyes taking on a similar colour to the clouds before they released their deluge on the fourth day of the ma-ai. The cogs in her mind are turning, and she does not like the conclusions she is discovering.

Hideo looked confused. "Amaya? I did not mean to offend you."

[Ide Amaya]

She squeezes her eyes shut for a moment, "no, Hideo-san, you have said nothing wrong." She pulls away from him, stepping back and leaving a mere foot of distance between them, though it feels more like an entire desert. She wraps her arms around herself, as if she could comfort herself that way.

Hideo now looked more worried, as she pulled back, but he didn't follow. "Amaya, what's going on?" There was clear concern in his voice.

"It would appear that there is more to this gossip than the idle tweet tweet of bored little cagebirds." Her voice carries hints of confusion and anger and hurt.

Hideo frowned, taking a half-step towards her. "You believe there was an attempt to...damage you?"

For just one small word, pain takes precedence over the other emotions, "yes."

There was a small sigh. "Do you have any idea who would wish you ill in such a way?"

[Ide Amaya]

She shakes her head, "the people I have met have all be kind and generous. I have enjoyed their company, and I believed they enjoyed mine." All except Suteichi, she muses, but he has Liu Fei, surely he gains nothing by this?

"Whoever it was, they sought to sought to drive a wedge between us. They said I was unfit to join an Imperial family, and gave you cause to question my fidelity."

"If they intended to drive a wedge between us...Then they have failed" Hideo said simply, his eyes on hers.
