(Day 7, LE) Hold Me... In a Headlock

[Shinjo Monkhbaatar]

He grunts slight as he is brought to the floor, twisting and reaching back to try and work a reversal. All he accomplishes is opening himself up to an arm bar. "It's one of the things I appreciate most about them.”

[Matsu Kogo]

She takes the opportunity, though she's gentle. "When in this sort of position, sometimes movement is its own difficulty. Relaxing can take the weight from the opponent in a surprising way. See if you can see how I'm using your own body against you. Then find a counter, if you can."

[Shinjo Monkhbaatar]

He pays attention to how she's got him locked down, but there are no thoughts that come to mind for escaping it. Whenever he thinks about something and then gives it a little movement it just seems like he'd end up worse off or he just wouldn't have enough leverage. "I'm not sure what to do here," he admits.

[Matsu Kogo]

She ponders for a moment. "Perhaps it would be better, if I were in the hold and showed you how I would escape. Shall we switch positions?"

[Shinjo Monkhbaatar]

"Alright, if I can figure it out," he replies switching positions when Kogo releases him.

[Matsu Kogo]

Kogo moves into the position easily, though her ears are still reddening. "Now from here, with my arm in this position, there is a possibility of you being able to break my arm if I do not comply. However, if I can shift your own weight in some way, it might ease the arm." Kogo moves in earnest, seeking to shift weight from her arm onto his less balanced side, taking a slight bit of pressure off. It is a slightly painful maneuever but nothing shows on her face. She shifts her weight back towards his body, blushing slightly at the contact. "Do you see some of what I am saying?"

"That makes sense," he says with a nod. "I was only thinking about my arm and not the rest of my body. It's different from using a sword or a bow. For those your posture and positioning are important but you don't really use your weight or other parts of your body as actively."

[Matsu Kogo]

Kogo nods. "That's why its so different. The whole body is your instrument. You must play each part as a whole, not focus only on one spot." She begins to move, changing the position gradually. Eventually, she is halfway out of the hold, though her arm is cocked at an odd and likely painful angle. "Do you see what I am saying now, Monkh-san?"

[Shinjo Monkhbaatar]

"I do. Though I think I need to figure out some specific techniques and skills to use," he replies. "Perhaps you could help me out with that? Perhaps drill a few different movements?"

[Matsu Kogo]

She nods. "That would be possible." She smiles." Thank you for being patient with me. This is my first time teaching this craft." She waits to be released from the hold.

[Shinjo Monkhbaatar]

He lets her out of it and helps her to her feet.

[Matsu Kogo]

Kogo looks at him, pondering for a moment. "Is there something bothering you Monkh-san? You are...quieter today."

"Ah, no, I'm doing very well. I'm just focused a bit on figuring this out so my mind is running through what I've picked up so far and how it might be applicable. But I'm still very happy to be spending time with you," he says with a smile.

[Matsu Kogo]

She smiles. "Good. I would not wish you to be bored." She ponders for a brief moment. "Perhaps we will walk through a particular step slowly, so you can see how it is done. Then, we can have you try it and increase speed." She looks at him. "Since this arm bar seems a trouble to you, let us start there, with us standing." She maneuvers herself to a helpful position. "Lock me in, as I did to you and then we will go through the procedure I would use to get out."

"That sounds great," he says, taking her hand first, and smiling before putting her in the lock. "Show me how it's done Kogo-san."
