Hunting the Unknown (Day 5, EM)

[Matsu Kogo]

She shakes her head. "No, I am glad you did so. I fear I have been poor company for much of this morning and I prefer plain speaking in many things. " She thinks for a moment. "If we were married, you would also have my full devotion. You would not need to fear that my heart would wander or have already been captured. It is true that there are others who have caught my eye and who I have spent time with during this miai. But I suspect the same is also true for yourself."

She smiles at his last words. "You are a generous man. Know that I see the potential for myself to be content in a marriage with you, though I do not speak more. If you find at the end of these days, your heart has fallen to another, I will be glad for your good fortune. But if you choose me, I will be glad to be with a man who has no qualms with showing me the excitement a life with him can provide."

"I have greatly enjoyed this morning, Matsu-sama. Please do not doubt that." he assured her. "If there's anything that you've learned about me, it should be that I do not lie."

[Matsu Kogo]

She smiles broader at that, covering it with a hand. "Shinjo-san, you could not have said anything that would make me value you more." She lowers the hand and allows it to brush his for a brief second. "I have also greatly enjoyed my time with you. You have...taken me out of myself, on a gloomy morning. I can appreciate such a skill. Some say the Lion are too stern and serious. Perhaps we just need leavening."

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"Perhaps others don't see you in the right light." he suggested. "Or, on horseback."

[Matsu Kogo]

She smiles at him, enjoying the flattery for this moment. "I suspect no one who had seen me on horseback this morning could see me as terribly stern. Ahh, but it is just such an amazing feeling. One feels as if a little faster and one will fly like a bird."

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"And, be free of the burdens weighing them down." he nodded.

[Matsu Kogo]

She smiles. "Yes, precisely. It is as if everything flies away with the wind." Her shoulders relax, as she realizes this conversation is not full of such pitfalls as some of her recent ones. "I hope that one day, I will be able to experience this daily. It seems better than meditation."

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"I think that is likely." he smiled. "I am certain you will have more opportunities while you are here."

[Matsu Kogo]

She smiles. "I hope so. Perhaps I will make it a daily exercise. Then, if I am chosen to join the Unicorn, though I may give up much, I will gain something precious."

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"Noburu-san may get jealous if you spend so much time with horses." he chuckled.

[Matsu Kogo]

She laughs a bit behind a hand. "True. I will have to make sure she gets her own exercise. It is good training that keeps the horses from starting at her. I am glad of it."

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"Hai." he nodded. "Familiarity builds trust."

[Matsu Kogo]

She laughs, hiding behind a hand. "It seems the Shinjo are prone to dropping pieces of wisdom all over, like pearls scattering from a jewelry shop. Is this a family trait or am I just lucky?"

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"Perhaps you just inspire such insight." he shrugged. "I cannot say I've been known for my wisdom."

[Matsu Kogo]

She smiles though there it is a bit of a wince to it. "Inspiration does seem to be the theme of this miai. I have been both inspired and called inspiring. Perhaps it is a gift to help others find wisdom." If only I could inspire myself to wisdom.
