OTAKU EVENT: Lancing (D6, Early Afternoon)

Horses, of course it would be horses today. Repressing the urge to sigh he approached the large beast he patted it on the neck, perhaps to calm it, before mounting. Successfully atop his quadrupedal workstation he leaned forward patting the creature on the neck again as he quietly in it's ear. "I swear, if you throw me, I'll bring three of my biggest cousins and throw you next."

Seemingly satisfied that he and the horse properly understood each other, Daisue straightened up accepting the lance from one of the nearby attendants and setting it in place in a similar manner he had seen some of the other competitors before beginning his first pass. Anyone with a modicum of skill could tell, he really had no clue what he was doing, but it seemed that perhaps the Kami were on his side. As for soon after setting off, he had scored a solid hit on the target with his lance, and even manged to keep his seat, if but barely.

Emboldened by his success, Daisuke decided that instead of dismounting as was his original intent, he'd try his luck with a second pass. Getting back into position he once again bore down on the target, scoring another point!

Now then was his last chance, Settling back into position he tried for a third point, sadly though the Kami were no longer on his side and as he came near the target his aim faltered and he passed it without hitting. Still he did better then how he expected, and as he moved the horse back towards the starting point to dismount, he found himself happy with his performance

Despite still carrying visible injuries from her fight with the Orochi, Yuzuki arrived to take part, and after a brief explanation of what was expected, climbed on the horse that had been provided for her.

"I shall name you... Mantis-steed," she said, patting the horse.

"He's already got a name, Mantis-san," the Unicorn in charge said.

"Oh. What's he called?"

"Unicorn-steed."

"I should've expected that."

Well, no matter! She set off! Despite having no experience whatsoever. And despite being injured.

And then she hit the target. It was pretty easy even. And she stayed on the horse too, that was nice. So she tried it again. And managed to not fail. And the third time... well, the third time she missed. And then the judge said she had to get off the horse.

"Good job, Mantis-steed," she said, patting the horse.

"Unicorn-steed," the judge corrected her.

Moto al-Kalb was mounted infantry - his role was to either break the ranks with his hounds or follow behind to clear out survivors. As such the lance was not a weapon he trained with. That said he was still Unicorn and horseback was his home. The first two charges were picture perfect but, sadly, knowing he needed a special showing to distinguish himself he pushed too hard on the final run and failed to strike the target with the flourish he added.

The Moto cursed loudly but consoled himself that, at least unlike many of these Rokugani, he had stayed on his mount.

Takeo gave a run - something he knew how to do. Or he thought he did. He managed to connect solidly on his second pass but miss on his third - so badly no one would remember he had managed to hit it at all.

Postby Iuchi Batul on Mon Apr 24, 2017 3:11 am

Batul was no warrior, but she trusted her heritage. She climbed up on the Unicorn horse and pat its neck. "Let's show them how Unicorn ride" She told the horse with kind words as she gripped the lance. The samurai-ko started on a trot, gently maintaining control of the horse as she tried to understand the lance. The samurai-ko realized that they were reaching the target so she moved the speed to a gallop, her hair whipping the air behind her as she rid like a true Unicorn.

The samurai-ko grabbed the lance and directed it to the target with ease. But unused to using weapons, she stumbled a bit, staying put on the horse with a strong grip of her legs. The woman, encouraged, turned onto the target again, this time maintaining full control of the attack, as well as of the balance on the stallion. Trying her luck, she went for a third pass, but her arms seemed to not hold properly, as the weight of the lance started to tire the samurai-ko, and her aim failed the target. Although Batul came back proud of her performance.

Postby Seppun Aramoro on Mon Apr 24, 2017 11:47 am

Having observed the other riders, the experienced and the foolish, Aramoro noted the techniques. He got onto the borrowed horse quite nimbly. He steered it with some agility, only by talent. He hit his target twice in succession, seemingly talented for his event.

Understanding the rules well, he realised giving his all in the last bout could win him favour and that is what he did. Hitting the target with great momentum he knocked it clear off, but so was he as his priestly legs failed to keep grip. He fell hard with a thump to the floor, when the heiman came to help and turn him on to his back they revealed his face wearing a smile: "I hit it, didn't I..." He whispered rhetorically.

Mei looks at the targets and picks up the lance with a bit of hesitstion.

She kicks Ti-Lu into a swift charge and levels the weapon at the target, but at the last minute, Ti-Lu jerks to the side having not been traines for combat use, throwing Mei's aim.

The horse stops and Mei curses. She tries to coax him in to taking another pass, but Ti-Lu begins to limp slightly. Feeling her steed was not doing well, Mei dismounts and hands over the lance, intent on caring for her partner instead of pushing him.

Akil and Setem were, of course, a team. A team that was never not going to get up to speed on an event like this. Of course, being good with a horse doesn't mean anything if you can't HIT a target. For a moment, Akil wheeled back as if considering a second pass. But realizing he didn't want to flail uselessly at a target for ten minutes, he simply dismounted Setem and gave his horse an appreciative pat.

Finally, an event worthy of his talents! He enters the specified area, armour and shield gloriously reflecting the sun's rays from his position atop Harukaze... or they would have been if nature hadn't conspired to dampen his entrance.

Nevertheless, he struck quite the dashing figure, surely making all the girls swoon. The lance felt a little odd in his hand, but such concerns were trifling matters, beneath his attention. Samurai didn't care about such things. They acted.

And so he did! Charging gloriously forth, he scored a solid hit against the dummy, bracing perfectly to absorb the impact. He looked around as he turned his horse, seeing in his mind the adoring looks of his fans.

He would give them more. He'd been holding back a little on that last run. Pushing Harukaze to her fastest speeds, he charged once more, striking the target with full force. Unfortunately his strike was too good. Having placed the lance so perfectly, the weapon was fixed in place with him holding it. He was lifted out of the saddle, Harukaze running out from under him.

Standing up and cleaning the mud off his armour, he decided to make a tactical exit from the field, not looking back.

Ryori steps out onto the field, picking up the lance and trying it a second, he seems not concerned with this event much at all, this being the true first martial event he believes he has this. He prepares, himself, and as he approaches the horse he bows, introducing himself and having a brief conversation before mounting up.

otaku event charging speed tn10: 4d10o10k3 19

He easily gets up to speed seeming exceptionally comfortable in the saddle, but as he comes up to the target his lance seems just a little low, the young lion not use to the foreign weapon misses the target and seems rather frustrated over it.

otaku event pass 1 yarijitsu tn 20 1 R: 4d10o10k3 12

He breathes centering himself, turning for a second pass as he does he forces his mount to even faster speeds leaning low in the saddle and bracing he drops the lance dead center on the target, the force passing through his body in recoil causes him to lose grasps of the reigns with one hand but he is able to catch them and not lose his seat.

He nods seeming happy with the performance and calls for another Yari, the attendant corrects him "Lance" his response "whatever" shows his brief success has made him forget that they are not the same as he continues at full speed the tip again droops and sags causing it to miss the target completely, he sighs, pulling the horse around, before dismounting, and taking time to thank it for its service.
