"What do you mean?" he was genuinely intrigued.

“If you go to war, you kill enemy warriors much glory, yes. You win the battle and control land, now you must rule now you must do right by peasants. Other family now have hate in their heart and wish revenge, new war will come, more will die,” she says looking at the edge.

“It is warrior life, it is known.”

He was surprised by such an insightful answer. "That is true but you misunderstood me," he calmly retorted. "Those are all steps in the war, battles without warriors and challenges to be overcome."

"In the end you want to survive. The goal is simple albeit the path is rocky."

“Survival is always a goal, but victory is more important. If my life can be given to assure victory, then glory will be had for my name,” she shrugs as she speaks.

“I see your point though, Nintoku.”

[Matsu Nintoku]

"We are but pieces of a much grander setting," he continued. "In the end our name brings glory to our clans and our sacrifices ensure their survival."

He sighed again "I just wish it was as easy as this. Find the goal and work through it."

She nods and sheathes Massacre. She says, "There is time yet for you to figure this all out, our fate is not completely in our hands."

"Don't you wish it was though?" he said wistfully "You know... our first kiss was what made me really like AND hate you. It was so... brash."

"I totally did not know what to do there."

“I do wish that yes,” she admits.

“I am glad it got your attention, it was a moment that I enjoy. I would think it obvious that I enjoy your presence, and closeness is good. Yet if you choose to hate me, then so be it.”

"I hated you because I would have never done that. I think I might have even been jealous from your... boldness," his tone was sheepish "I might be confused but I'm certain of one thing. I like you "

"In fact I had to draw that painting and bring up that fairy tale just to justify seeing you again."

She furrows her brow and says, “You think I would turn you away if you just asked?”

"At all," he said before laughing. "You did promise to eat my heart, remember?"

“I know.”

“Still that does not mean I would not enjoy your company unless you get all weird,” she says.

"You make me weird," he said mildly annoyed before letting another chuckle. "I feel like a swooning Crane maiden. That would make you my prince charming though."

“So Crane swoon easily?” she asks.

“Is that good thing for me to be this Prince Charming?”

"At least that is what is said of them," he replied recalling the various courtly novels he glanced over before shrugging at her question. "That's up to you. I don't think I'd be a very convincing maiden."
