Keeping in Practice (Day 4, LA)

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki quirked an eyebrow for a moment. "Oh, hai, I guess that makes sense, defending important personages and the honor of your clan." She turned her attention more fully to Khulun. "Hai. It was been quite wonderful so far. I've never experienced anything quite like it before. How have you enjoyed the miai, Moto-san?"

[Moto Khulun]

Khulun nods and says, “I enjoy meeting so many new samurai for so many new places, it is good welcome for us. Learn many things from so many. Plus all the handsome men is good too.”

[Asako Yuki]

"The feeling is mutual, Moto-san." She replied with a small smile. "Meeting samurai who have spent so long outside the boundaries of Rokugan is something that, well, never happens." The comment about handsome men got a blush from her. "Hai, I have noticed a few. Several among the Unicorn."

[Moto Khulun]

“Unicorn blood is strong,” she says nodding at her cousin.

“Where did you learn the language of the desert?”

[Asako Yuki]

"Books, mostly." Yuki admitted. "I also know the language of the Yobanjin, that I learned from my father." She paused. "I'm still learning Mekhem, but I know enough to understand, and speak well enough to be mostly understood."

[Moto Khulun]

“How you learn from books?” she asks.

“Reading yes but speaking, how you know you say word right?”

[Asako Yuki]

"I did manage to get some time with an enterprising merchant from the lands that was willing to spend some time with me, at my father's request." Yuki explained. "My father deals with the Yobanjin, which occasionally involves direct interaction. The Burning Sands occasionally trades with the Yobanjin. Or something like that."

"I didn't get as much time as I would like. So maybe I'm still pronouncing some of the words wrong." She admitted.

[Moto Khulun]

“So you speak to the world beyond the Empire, is that a duty of the Phoenix?” she asks.

Yuki was about to shake her head, but paused. "Not officially, no. But as one of the clans that has a border with the world outside Rokugan, we do occasionally have limited interactions with them."

[Moto Khulun]

“Then the Phoenix may understand us better than the others,” she says putting away that information for later.

“How are you on the horse?”

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki smiled slightly. "I went riding with Shinjo Liu Yue just yesterday and got to ride her horse. It was a very different experience from what I'm used to."

“Well our horses are fierce and strong, at least you didn’t fall and crack your head,” she says with a smirk.

“Well I hope you didn’t.”

Yuki smiled warmly and shook her head. "No, not at all. Hikazume is a wonderful horse who rides very smoothly, though that may have been the saddle, which is a fantastic piece of equipment, I must say!"

[Moto Khulun]

“It is good yes, makes guiding horse much easier makes days in the saddle too. Have done many long rides, cover much distance quickly and our horses are strong with good stamina, it is known. How do Phoenix fight?” she asks.

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki nodded. She would definitely be telling people about stirrups when she got home.

"Well, primarily on foot. But we often have shugenja support as well, which changes the field of battle in ways that are quite unique."
