Keeping in Practice (Day 4, LA)

[Moto al-Kalb]

al-Kalb hefts his axe easily in one hand, "Very strong indeed! It is nice to meet you Yuki...san." Rokugani methods of address and honorifics were clearly still new territory for the big man.

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki quirked an eyebrow at that. "Hai, I have had several meetings with Moto Butaj-san. I have not met al-Kalb before now, nor Baatar." She paused. "I have seen a few Shinjo though, they were rather nice as well." She smiled slightly.

She turned her attention back to al-Kalb, glancing at his axe. "So I see. It is always nice to meet one of the Unicorn." She smiled warmly to the man.

[Moto Khulun]

The Moto was quiet allowing the large man to take center stage for the Phoenix.

[Moto al-Kalb]

al-Kalb was straining his best behavior but he knew Khulun would give him hell if he messed up too much. Plus miai may not be about love but best not to end up with a wife already scorned he imagined. He offers his best approximation of a friendly smile, "And Phoenix too." He looks to her belt, "You are warrior? Or priestess who bears swords too?"

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki paused only for a moment at the smile before returning it. "I am trained as a bushi, yes." She explained to the Moto. "Most priests do not carry swords, besides their wakizashi of course."

[Moto Khulun]

Khulun adds, “Sayyed al-Kalb trains our war dogs, good warrior.”

[Moto al-Kalb]

"Very common for Moto priests but they're rare. Iuchi cousins more like Rokugani I think. Though still many carry." He looks approvingly at her swords, "Blades better anyway. More reliable."

At Khulun's words the big man nods and attempts another semblance of a smile, this time a proud one.

[Asako Yuki]

"In more recent times, hai." Yuki responded, then paused for a moment. "WI understand Mekhem, if you speak." She stated.

[Moto Khulun]

Khulun knew enough words in Mekhem to understand some relatives when they wanted food or where to piss but beyond that she was lost. She looks to al-Kalb to see his response.

[Moto al-Kalb]

Most of al-Kalb's speech had been taught by his sensei after they knew a return to Rokugan would be coming soon. As such they had focused on trying, as best they could, to teach him the tongue of the Empire - neglecting others.

He shakes his head, "Sorry?"

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki blushed slightly. "Nevermind, Moto-san." She paused, glancing at Khulun briefly. "So what are war dogs? How long does it take to train them?"

[Moto Khulun]

The Moto princess adds, “There are many of us who only learned the tongue of Shinjo, I know some words in the desert tongue but not enough to speak it. We had other concerns than speaking many tongues. Impressive that you have learned it all the same.”

[Moto al-Kalb]

"War dogs are strongest and fastest of their breed. We train to fight alongside. Very good to break enemy rank or take care of wounded. Train constantly, like warriors, but first year most important and start fightin' sometime after that." Though his social failings are still clear at least on this topic the big Moto is enthusiastic and open.

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki smiled some, but it was fragile. "Oh, you use them to watch after your wounded as well? That must do a good deal to free up other soldiers."

[Moto Khulun]

The Moto princess interjects, "The war dogs are good to have, whatever role they play on the field. Sayyed al-Kalb and his war-dogs play important role just as Sayyeda Yu-ki must play as bodyguard, both important warriors, yes? Has Sayyeda enjoyed her time with the Unicorn?"
