She thinks for a moment. "When journeying with your clan, you must have come across many peoples from different places. When conflict occurs, as it often will, how did you or your clansmen handle these differences of opinion? One cannot duel the whole world, obviously."

If they failed to make the meeting cordial then it would be up to the champion or daimyo to choose how we reacted, be it with war, offerings or moving on. Sometimes it's more important to be able to trade for food than it is to assert dominance. But the vast majority of the time the Ide would prove why they are so good at what they do." He nods at her with a smile.

I must be slightly more direct...though it pains me a little. "But let us say that an Ide was not present, but rather, it was an every day sort of meeting between two people. At a market stall or in a tea room perhaps. And one misunderstood another's...intent. How does one handle conflict in such a situation?"

"The best they can, I suppose," he replies, placing a stone on the board. "Try and observe reactions to behavior and words. Avoid doing things that upset them. If it gets bad enough avoid them altogether. I'm not exactly well suited for that type of thing and have a lot to learn. I tend to just speak my mind, as I've said."

"I am," he replies with a pleasant smile. "I'm not very good at it, but then, I'm not good at singing and I sometimes do that when the mood strikes me."

"I don't sing. I just sing. Like when the group is singing or when I'm alone. I have no talent for it," he clarifies, with a chuckle. "I'm not a performer, just a participator."

She smiles. "That is more than I am. I fear my Crane cousins would be appalled at my lack of knowledge of the "finer arts". But our training leaves little time for such things. "

Or if I'm out on the plains by myself I'll sing for Meushi. She doesn't seem to mind and hasn't thrown me for it yet."

She laughed. "A valid point Shinjo-san. I will take care not to judge all things as Meushi does. Still, I suspect she is an authority on you."

The more pieces there are on the board, the harder time he has understanding where to go next.

She places her pieces, also trying to find a method of creating some strategy, but her mind clearly occupied. "I am not practiced in any particular art form. I enjoy storytelling and music however though. Perhaps one day, I will make a study of some type of music. It seems...relaxing."
