[Togashi Udo]

Togashi Udo is a young Dragon with a tattoo of a lion on his left arm and a tattoo of a crane on his right. He is strong and well defined, but seems to lack the rougher edges of a real fighter. His eyes tend to occasionally lose focus, as if he is continually getting lost in his own thoughts. His straw hat is just to keep him out of the sun some when he inevitably forgets what he should have been doing.

Udo is a approachable, if a bit aloof at times. He enjoys the company of others, but he is more of a listener than a talker (and sometimes he forgets to keep listening). Udo can most often be found meditating when not distracted by his duty or the company of others.

Udo is still discovering who he is outside of Dragon lands, but is looking forward to doing his duty for his Clan (and a little bit of getting it over with so he can get back to thinking about thinking).

Misa is a young woman of fragile, gentle beauty. She doesn't quite embody the delicacy of a Doji maiden's beauty, but instead is forced into a sense of passivity by her being born blind. While it is true she can be seen carrying a daisho with her, very few ever actually see her having it drawn, even within her own clan. Her servant, a small peasant girl named Sanmi, tends to keep her well presented and stylish. She is almost always seen wearing white and red, though she has a kimono of Dragon colors as well if needed. Overall she appears quite simple however, almost to the level of a monk's simplicity. Her mons of the Dragon clan and Tonbo family are small and simple rather than large and austentatious, her traveling bag is filled only with small necessities, and her only ornamentation usually are small red ribbons. Misa is soft spoken, not to the level of shyness but still with a touch of introversion. This more comes off as a contemplative attitude rather than anything else, and she seems quite open to meeting new people in her own way.

[Asako Hirase]

Description:
Asako Hirase is a calm, soft-spoken man of no particular distinction. His expression rarely shows anything other than polite interest where appropriate, rarely revealing such extremes as joy or anger. He dresses plainly in the usual colors, his robes perhaps a bit heavier than those of lowland clans for this time of year.

Background:
For all of his adult life, Hirase has been busy with the work of the mind. He is a scholar of the peoples to the north of the Empire, quietly publishing a few scholars treatises every year or so to no particular interest. His bushi wife died only a few years into their marriage and left him with the care of a very young child. The scholar wasted no time appealing to his Lord and was soon joined by a woman, Eriko, who could serve as both nursemaid and scribe for Hirase's own efforts. Their household was quiet and calm until the decision came that Hirase would leave of studying his current interest and instead turn his gaze to the newly returned Unicorn Clan.

Since leaving their mountains home, the small group has fallen into a pattern. Early mornings are devoted to prayer. Days are spent in the days work, either travel or study, with Eriko watching over little Ichiro to allow Hirase to focus elsewhere. Only in the evening does the father take up the son personally, spending the hour between sundown and dusk dutifully introducing the boy to something new each day, be it an idea or an object or a person. After the boy goes to bed, master and servant ensure that the days' notes and observations are written properly before they sleep.

Entourage:

Hirase's servant, Eriko, is a solid-looking woman of middle years. She spends the majority of her day tending to the young Ichiro and is conscientious in her duties to the boy. In the evenings, she is usually found transposing the notes or spoken findings of Hirase himself into a more attractive format.


The boy, Ichiro, is a charming three year old. He has a good command of language, both his own and that of the people his father studies, and gabbles away happily in a polyglot of the two unless scolded to do otherwise. He is still a bit shy of strangers, as toddlers are wont to be, but can be easily won over with sweets or interesting objects.

[Asako Yuki]

Description:
Yuki stands slightly taller than most women, with a frame more built for a bushi. Despite her lack of waifish beauty, Yuki manages to turn heads with her easy, warm, smile and stunning looks. Though she mostly manages to maintain her On well, her youthful exuberance overtakes her on occasion. Her clothing is quite plain, dulling what would otherwise be one of the great beauties of Phoenix Lands.

Background:
Yuki hails from Asako lands, and one of the few estates that managed to survive the War of Burned Wings relatively unscathed. Trained among the Bushi of her clan, she nonetheless maintains an air of studiousness so common among the Asako and loves to investigate and discover new things. Having experienced her gempukku only a few months before this miai, the young woman is still fresh-faced and wide-eyed as she seems quite eager to investigate the newly found Unicorn Clan.

[Mirumoto Chou]

Chou always has a smile ready, with a laugh not far behind. She dresses not for the sake of asceticism, but for ease of wear, and somehow manages to be neat at every outing. Her head is cleanshaven. Her eyes are milky with inflicted blindness, and the skin around them is reddened as if eternally sunburnt. A strange black and white creature, not quite a monkey, sits on her shoulder with little hands on her ears. When it tugs right, she goes right...

[Soshi Yuuru]

Soshi Yuuru is now a couple of years out from his gempukku. He was always a wild and rambunctious young boy filled with energy. Without the ability to speak to the kami, his path for him was set relatively early. He joined the Soshi Magistrate School, much as his father did, when he was a young lad. He did averagely well in his training becoming proficient in the things most Soshi wannabe magistrates are.

His skills were put to use shortly after his gempukku in the peaceful administration of the Shinomen forest. He took his gempukku right as the War for the Shinomen finished and was put on assignment in western Scorpion provinces following the campaign (which the Scorpion were not a part of). Before the creation of the Piranha he worked under Scorpion officials to begin to explore, map, and subdue the forest to a greater measure than had been done in the past. Yuuru is now fascinated by maps and has become a skilled cartographer. Yuuru has close ties to the Hare and (more recently) Piranha as a result of his efforts. He is starting to develop a bit of attention from his superiors and others after a successful raid of a Forest Killer camp where he apprehended the ring-leader of that particular group. He hopes to continue on a path towards an eventual magistrate post in the future.

He enjoys the dangers of the woods on most days, but has had his fair share of scrapes and bruises in his adventures. One of the worst of which resulted as he tried to jump from one tree canopy to an adjacent one. His foot got caught in a vine which put him tumbling through the air towards the forest floor. Luckily (at first) he landed on what appeared to be a soft bed of sorts for an animal in the forest. He looked underneath himself and found a baby tiger underneath his leg (the tiger lived). The baby’s mother was not far away and came leaping at him almost immediately. The experience left him severely wounded but alive.

Yuuru loves exploring and pressing himself to new physical feats. He can be relatively aloof from others but not out of social awkwardness. He is more interested in his own matters than in anyone else’s. He enjoys telling a good story with friends and sharing good times, but does not particularly care for 100% accuracy in tales. As a result, many of his own tales grow in size and scale as time progresses. ‘Fortunately’ for him the world always seems to provide him with interesting stories to tell.

He’s been assigned to attend the miai and seek a suitable spouse for the Scorpion. His leaders have determined that whether or not he stays in the clan, his skills as a cartographer and potential future as a magistrate could be of equal use to the Scorpion, or the Unicorn. They're confident that he’ll present a decently appropriate face for the clan, and engender some interest from potential spouses.

[Yuzuki]

Appearance & Personality:

Yuzuki strikes a pretty fashionable figure; if not the most conventional. Her attire is clearly more expensive than that of most bushi, though that might not seem surprising to those that recognize the mon of the Mantis. Her skin is lighter than that of many of her kin, contrasting strongly with her short dark black hair she keeps in an asymmetric cut. One's attention might also easily be drawn to the pair of kama she keeps at her sides in addition to her daisho.

One need spend only a short amount of time around her to come away with the strong impression that she's not the most reliable sort. She seems to have trouble focusing on any one thing, and never really seems to be impressed with much of anything; like she's seen it all a hundred times before and just can't bring herself to get excited about it all over again.


Background:

Yuzuki was one of the few survivors of a freak storm that hit her village some ten years ago. Due to family connections,
she was adopted into the household of the governor of Toshi no Inuzuma; where she quickly gained a reputation as a
difficult child who was constantly getting into trouble, talking to herself, and making up the most ridiculous lies imaginable. Though, a handful of people might remember some of the trouble she caused ended up being strangely helpful, and that some of the lies were actually well-kept secrets no one should've been able to figure out.

As she got older Yuzuki grew quieter and more detached. And though she never quite got rid of her reputation as the weird girl that talks to herself and ends up in trouble more often than is reasonable, she became accepted among the city and the students of the local dojo; where she's only recently passed her gempukku.

The return of the Unicorn is surely of interest to the Mantis, even as great the distance between the two clans might be. Yuzuki is hardly the ideal emissary to be sent over, but she's been pretty insistent on being sent here.


Random Hooks:

• Ever been to the City of Lightning? The adopted daughter of the governor is something like a mobile landmark, drawing attention with her general weirdness. Maybe you ran into her.
• Yuzuki is the unconventionally fashionable sort. She has the money to spend on jewelry and good clothes, and insists on a rebellious style that people either think is 'cool', 'weird', or 'unacceptably crass'; maybe you'd like to set her straight about what fashion is supposed to mean. Or get tips!
• Mantis are picky eaters, and Yuzuki being an aspiring cook means she's more than willing to talk food or shop around for quality ingredients. Food is a subtle art!
• Cats! Yuzuki's often accompanied by her pet cat, Kon. Do you like cats too?

[Bayushi Suteichi]

Bayushi Suteichi is a devilishly handsome socialite. An apprentice courtier under his mother and sister, he is quite observant and at times inquisitive. Suteichi is fond of the arts, an avid reader and student of poetry. He is also a musician, favoring his samisen. Suteichi makes it a priority to never miss a court session or event. A lesson that both his parents taught him. He enjoys interacting with others and learning as much as he can from them. With his gifted social skills, his parents wasted no time in sending him to the Miai to find a suitable spouse and to foster relations with the Unicorn.


Appearance: Suteichi always wears the latest and nicest fashions. He keeps himself well-groomed and never takes off his mask.

[Soshi Taira]

Name: Soshi Taira

Hair: Black, with a white streak in the bangs
Occupation: Magistrate's Medic/Yoriki
Married: Nope!
Eyes: Cool light brown.

Soshi Taira is a somewhat less flashy than average scorpion. His mask is simply a tall and stiff collar on his black and red garb. His kimono are modified to close up to the neck to support it, and also to conveniently keep blood off his skin when doing medical work. It saves time on purification after.

The reputation that follows the man is a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand he is known as a reliable healer, and a competent yoriki who has served with stolid loyalty through his career. On the other, he has been tangentially involved in all manner of strange events, never responsible but always present. Some rumors say spirits follow him and wreak havoc wherever he goes.

The one thing that is certain is that the man is compassionate in excess, especially for a scorpion, and can be seen patching together criminal and magistrate both after a fight, even if the criminal would be bound for harsh sentence when he was done.

In all, the man, while not beautiful like some of his clan, is a lean, somewhat stern figure, but one which can be relied upon by any in need.

The Cat: There is a beautiful ruddy red and brown cat that follows Taira around, appearing and disappearing at her own whim. Though the joke of a cat owning the human, rather than the human owning the cat, is an old one, in this case it seems very apt. Indeed, there is a certain intelligence in the eyes of the animal that is more than a little off-putting.

[Yogo Yuichi]

For the rest of Rokugan it would seem that Yuichi fits the stereotypical Yogo family member and that stereotype actually defines him very accurately. Bitter, cynical, paranoid, sarcastic, almost nihilistic, his way of life is defined by the curse that lingers in his bloodline.

He has never felt loved in his entire life. His mother died because of his father, who triggered his curse by falling in love with her. After that his father, overwhelmed by grief, commited suicide. So Yuichi was raised by the rest of their family, barely having any meaningful connection with any of them, besides his teaching lessons. He hated his childhood in Fukitsu province, he hated the rest of the 'haughty' Scorpion members who bullied him during his first travel away from his ancestral lands. And of course he hates, with all his heart, the Shadowlands and those who seek the power of Jigoku.

There some few things that Yuichi does not hate. He actually respects, but not love, his family members elders for enduring so much during their lives. He respect the power of the kami, and tries to minimize his usage of their powers, taking his role as a priest of the kami very seriously. He respects the Kuni family (and Crabs in general) for their relentless fight against the Shadowlands and the followers of the Ninth.

Yuichi was ordered to find a wife and was sent to the miai organized by the, recently returned, Unicorn clan. He could not care less about getting a wife but he understands that he has a duty to his family. But he is realistic, he knows that it will be almost impossible for him to get a wife, afterall he is a Yogo. He suspects that his family has the same thoughts as him, and this journey will be probably an utter failure and waste of time. To him it would be better to die alone and end the spreading of the damned curse.

Yuichi has a very deep connection to the spiritual world. When he was born the priests and sages of the Yogo family tried to look at his future, finding very difficult to see beyond some vague and diffuse future paths. His spiritual presence is quite tangible and for some unknown reason, spirits tend to gather arround him and Yuuichi often can be seen in communion with the kami when he has some freetime. Apparently he was also born with some evil residual kharma from his former life, which manifest itself in his discoulored right eye, or so the sages and people say.

He always wears his oni mask, rarely taking it off. Another odd quirk this priest has.

[Kitsune Kumahime]

Kumahime is a woman of exceptional stature and strength, who shall loudly inform all that she represents the Proud Bear dojo, and that Proud Bear style is the strongest she is. Her daisho looks well cared for, but seldom used, while her hands are hardened and scarred; her obvious weapon of choice. She accepts all comers to test her hand-to-hand prowess.

She is inexperienced, this being her first time outside of Kitsune lands, or even venturing far from the Shrine of the Proud Bear. She's still taking in the newness of everything, and doesn't quite understand the Unicorn are stranger than most outsiders.

[Usagi Tomoe]

Usagi Tomoe is an energetic young girl, with vibrant-coloured eyes. She often has a sassy or snarky remark on-hand, rarely shies away from voicing her (superior) opinion and in conversation it is obvious that the young Hare is very well-learned and well-read. It's just such a shame that she often seems to trip over her own shadow, or just has the most awful luck at times.

She is never pleased to be reminded of the fact that she is not a bushi, due to a medical condition, but she takes her duties to the Hare very seriously, and she has set herself the goal of scoring a good man for the Hare... or *gulp* join the Unicorn.

Her constant companion is a tiny tortoise, named Ganko, who usually regards everyone with a disapproving, yet stoic, glare.

[Yogo Mizuki]

Occupation: Courtier/Merchant

Height: 5'5"

Appearance and Personality: The most notable thing able her is she is always covered. Especially her face. But she is friendly enough otherwise. Handling her Clan’s financial affairs, she tends to be more forthcoming and blunt than most of her Clan.

Public Background: Mizuki has top breeding for the Yogo. Her father is a direct descendent of Yogo himself. Her mother is comes from a line of powerful shugenja and is one herself. Unfortunately, unlike her younger siblings, she possesses no ability in magic. This may be why the Yogo Family itself seems to have rejected her.

Regardless, she served adequately her training and has proved useful in her Family’s role as the Clan merchants.

[Seppun Hideo]

Name: Seppun Hideo

Seppun Hideo is a young and impressionable shugenja. Peaceful, kind, always looking out for others. He is easily the best choice to attend a miai with the newest clan, the Unicorn, as he could provide a neutral point of view on behalf of the Imperials who are still unsure as to how to treat this returning clan.

Hideo is average height, with dark brown hair and eyes that almost look black. He dresses conservatively for an Imperial, in decent quality kimonos or robes depending on if he is performing priestly duties or courtly duties. He’s a very respectful man, and looks forward to meeting the Unicorn properly for the first time. He is well-learned, and spent quite a bit of time before travelling to the miai studying up on the little information the Imperials had on the Unicorn, and where they came from.
