[D1 LA] Short Lesson Before Dinner

[Matsu Kogo]

Noburu looks at Shinjo quietly and then seems to sniff delicately. She looks him over and then puts her head down, as if readying for a nap. She keeps one eye cracked.

"That's not bad. She's not super friendly in the afternoon, as she gets sleepy. " She looks back at Shinjo-san. "May I meet your companion?" She steps slightly away from Noburu, waiting to approach Meushi when given permission.

[Shinjo Monkhbaatar]

"Of course. I imagine she's a bit less temperamental than Noboru," he says with a gentle nod.

He slowly backs away, with a smile and joins Kogo by Meushi.

[Shinjo Liu Fei]

Fei looked curiously at the Gaijin tongued Asako, it was unexpected and because of that very interesting to hear even a clearly less tempered version of the language back in Rokugan. "You can speak the language of Mekhem?" she asked simultaneously with her sister, though with a slight bit of surprise despite the clearly apparent truth.

Looking to Hirase she decided to inquire, "Is it normal for the Asako to speak languages from other area's?"

Though she asked only that, there was certainly that barely veiled desire to know how they learned to speak these languages and more personally seemed to hold an interest in any that Hirase might know with the way she appraised him in the moment that followed.

[Matsu Kogo]

"Of course. I imagine she's a bit less temperamental than Noboru," he says with a gentle nod.

He slowly backs away, with a smile and joins Kogo by Meushi.

Kogo slowly approaches Meushi, keeping her hand out and looking her softly in the eyes. She doesn't make any noise, slowly moving in order to not startle the beautiful animal. With her slow progress, Meushi snuffles her hand and Kogo runs a soft hand over her mane, taking care not to presume too much or startle the animal.

"She is very gentle and friendly. Not as persnickety as my Noburu. But lovely. I can see why the Unicorn value their horses so highly."

[Asako Yuki]

Yue smiled and nodded along to her sister's speech on their names. "Liu Yue would be more appropriate, Hirase-san. We shorten our names among family only," she said. Her tone showed no hostility; she was merely being honest with her explanation.

The tall woman's ears perked at the Mekhem being spoken. "Oh, you speak Mekhem too?" she replied, her comfortableness with the language apparent. Her choice of words was much more casual than her Rokugani. "Stirrup, yeah? It's very useful indeed. It helps keep our balance and control, yes indeed. It is especially useful for my sister and I." For her own part, Liu Yue did a casual mock-swing with an imaginary tetsubo. "Need to be able to use your legs to control the horse if your hands are occupied, yeah?"

It was lost to her that Hirase did not understand her. She also was not careful to slow down for the other Asako's benefit.

Yuki nodded with a grin on her face. "Hai, I started to learn it once we heard that the Unicorn would be returning. It was mostly learning from books, admittedly. So I'm not very good." She looked over to the other sister as well, but decided that since she was talking to Hirase, she would leave it to him to reply. Instead she returned her attention to Liu Yue.

"That must give quite advantage. Most saddles you can't do more than fire bow with no hands." She tried to explain, her Mekhem was obviously worse than Liu Yue's Rokugani. So since they obviously understood at least most of what the other was saying in their respective languages she switched back. "Rokugani saddles are completely different. Ours are called four horn saddles, they have four prongs coming out near the corners, we use those to keep our balance."

[Soshi Yuuru]

Meanwhile in a different portion of the surrounding western fields Yuuru sat along the side of the road under a tree. He pulled out his flute and began to play slowly as he hit from the worst of the heat in the shade.

[Usagi Tomoe]

Getting an impression of the lay of the land, and much to her dismay it didn't seem like there would be much of interest in ther herbs departement here, the Usagi strolled casually along the paths. Thankfully she had a wide-brimmed straw hat to protect her face from the sun, and the fan was eagerly used to bat away the worst of the heat.

Hearing the sounds of a flute, and noticing it coming from the shade of the tree, the Hare walked closer.

Recognizing the player, Tomoe casually flopped down near Yuuru in the shade and began to take off the hat, but didn't speak while he still played his tune.

[Soshi Yuuru]

Yuuru played a relaxing tune with decent ability. He smiled slightly as the bunny flopped down next to him and gently finished up his song shortly after.

"Well, well... it's my savior. Nice to see you here Tomoe-san." He put his flute down in his lap and smiled charmingly in her direction.

[Usagi Tomoe]

"Nice to see the man foolish enough to climb the tallest trees in the Shinomen," the Hare retorted with a grin. "Didn't expect to see you sent here, Yuuru-san. The Shinomen wasn't exciting enough for you?"

She fanned herself some more, enjoying the reprieve from the heat of the sun.

[Asako Hirase]

"It is not uncommon, at least.." Hirase hadn't minded being left out and only briefly showed his fluency in his own gaijn language. Returning to Rokugani he offered, "Most of us are scholars, in our Family especially. If for no other reason than study of what came before or what might yet come, Phoenix take up all manners of pursuit. Language is just part of it."

[Soshi Yuuru]

"Nice to see the man foolish enough to climb the tallest trees in the Shinomen," the Hare retorted with a grin. "Didn't expect to see you sent here, Yuuru-san. The Shinomen wasn't exciting enough for you?"

She fanned herself some more, enjoying the reprieve from the heat of the sun.

"When I heard you were coming I figured I'd make an appearance and pretend to be a Unicorn for a few weeks." He said with a grin.

"Until you became mine at least."

[Shinjo Liu Fei]

"Is that the reason for your accent, you've learned the languages from text?" she asked, matching the Language he decided to share with them. It wasn't something he said that lead to her assumption but merely what she'd felt from the beginning of their conversations, certainly some scholars did not learn everything from books. She had met types like this, bookish types and scholars, and it was no surprise that Rokugan had developed their own in the time since the Unicorn had left.

Glancing to Yuki, she wished to touch on something, "You only learned it once you heard of us returning, a whole language to the point of speaking it? That is rather spectacular if not almost unbelievable Asako-san," though she used disbelief to voice her level of surprise Liu Fei was far from choosing to not believe what the woman had said.

[Usagi Tomoe]

"When I heard you were coming I figured I'd make an appearance and pretend to be a Unicorn for a few weeks." He said with a grin.

"Until you became mine at least."

"Haha," she said flatly, closed her fan and playfully tapped Yuuru on the head with it.

"You couldn't even fool Ganko-chan to think you were a Unicorn. Let alone me. Silly Yuu-kun."

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

Liu Yue afforded herself a small smile. It was relieving to hear the Asako woman with Mekhem. "I will analyze Rokugani saddles then," she said before perking her ears at Yobanjin. "Some might be surprised by our ability of language too,
sis. What a pleasant coincidence to meet those outside the Clan who can speak other languages." Her own Yobanjin was in-between her Rokugani and Mekhem. It was on the casual end but she spoke with the same deliberate pace to keep the words sounding perfect.

[Soshi Yuuru]

"From what I see.... Give me some furs, some red meat, and a horse and I'd be well on my way." He chuckled.

He then turned to her, smiled a bit more genuinely and said, "But it is nice to see you again really. It's been a while, neh? How have you been?"
