[D1 LA] Short Lesson Before Dinner

[Shinjo Monkhbaatar]

Monkhbaatar has Meushi out for a ride in the western fields as he waits for the arrival of the individual he had invited to join him. He was within eyesight of the city, on the near edge of the field and easily spotted on his black tobiano mare.

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki, wishing to see all the sights there were to see, made her way out to the fields to stare at these entirely new horses. The Phoenix had horses, of course, her family had a pair, even. But these beasts were something else entirely. She'd read the stories, but seeing them in person was something else entirely. Glancing behind her to her fellow Asako, she grinned to him before looking back at the horses. "Simply magnificent."

(Waiting for someone)

[Shinjo Liu Fei]

Spotting another Horse on the field, with it's rider waiting for someone who appeared to not be the two Phoenix stumbling up near the fields as Liu Fei and her sister Shinjo Liu Yue started trotting their horses out from the directions of the stables. Intent on giving their companions an exercise before they would be whisked away for an evening of dinners.

Slowing her horse to a stop, she leaned forward in the saddle and peered at the two Phoenix from a distance before glancing over toward her sister. "Watchers. Want to go say Hello?"

[Asako Hirase]

Yuki, wishing to see all the sights there were to see, made her way out to the fields to stare at these entirely new horses. The Phoenix had horses, of course, her family had a pair, even. Her cousin's own opinion was masked behind a thoughtful expression as he gazed out over the fields. "I wonder why they are so much larger. Did they simply breed them up this way or was it something they found on their journey that made them so much grander than Rokugani horses?"

Looking at the riders for a moment, he added, "...and I wonder, whatever it was, if it's why that one is so tall?"

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki's eyes turned to face the three riders and she lifted her hand to block out the sun to see them better. "I don't know, Hirase-san. I know that the stories only make a few references to horses out there being bigger, but no one had any theories that I read about." She looked to him. "Maybe you could do the study yourself." She said with a warm smile.

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

Liu Yue peered at them, as much as she could with her impaired vision. "What are they like?" she inquired in Mekhem. She then shook her head. "It doesn't matter. It would be rude to not speak to them yeah?" She asked this genuinely, still unsure of Rokugani procedures. "Nobody likes to be ignored, yeah?"

[Matsu Kogo]

Kogo walks into the fields, Noburu in tow, looking slightly lost but intrigued by all the space for horses. She looks across the field and sees the horse and its rider.

"Hello Shinjo-san! Its a lovely day to be outside!" She grins and walks towards him and the horse, cautioning Noburu to stay back a little bit. "The horse doesn't know you're ok yet. Don't spook it." Noburu growls in a soft way and flops on the edge of the field in a patch of grass.

[Shinjo Liu Fei]

"Whole point of this gathering is to fold back into a place here, right?" she said with a knowing look, answering back flawlessly in Mekhem as her sister desired. Steadying Gokiburi as they sat there for a moment.

"Maybe it might be rude to approach without warning," she offered as a counter with no weight, just tossing words into the air. "Only way to find out would be to-" and with that Liu Fei cut herself off and set off on Gokiburi suddenly. Taking off into a full sprint that wasn't directly at the Phoenix pair but aimed to loop around and come back so that she would be facing the spot they were now once Gokiburi came to a stop by the other Samurai.

Kogo walks into the fields, Noburu in tow, looking slightly lost but intrigued by all the space for horses. She looks across the field and sees the horse and its rider.

"Hello Shinjo-san! Its a lovely day to be outside!" She grins and walks towards him and the horse, cautioning Noburu to stay back a little bit. "The horse doesn't know you're ok yet. Don't spook it." Noburu growls in a soft way and flops on the edge of the field in a patch of grass.

"Matsu-san!" he replies, bringing the horse around to the woman and her lion friend. It seemed a bit shaky around the lion but followed the Shinjo's commands.

"It is quite nice," he nods to the woman, hopping down and keeping Meushi steady. "I think they're probably more ill at ease with each other than any pair of samurai here." He smiles widely at that. "Your friend wondering why he doesn't get to eat and mine why he has to be near someone that would usually eat him."

[Asako Hirase]

"Oh, I intend to ask about it. Horses seem much beloved, after all, and so it will be important to learn of them for a spouse's sake. It is much more interesting to talk to someone who understands an interest, after all, even if they don't quite share it."

Seeing the horse charge, Hirase took a step back for a moment, then steadied.

"Lively, aren't they..."

[Asako Yuki]

Yuki nodded in agreement, and as the horse charged forward and Hirase took a reflexive step back, the Asako silently interposed herself between the horse and her cousin.

"Full of energy and power, hai. Wonderful creatures." She said, glancing back at Hirase.

[Matsu Kogo]

Kogo walks into the fields, Noburu in tow, looking slightly lost but intrigued by all the space for horses. She looks across the field and sees the horse and its rider.

Kogo looks to Noburu, who swats at something in the grass and then looks innocently at Kogo. Kogo mutters under her breath. "Or maybe cats are just contrary."

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

"That's a bit excessive, don't you think?" she called out after her sister. Yue shook her head and ended up following her sister's route. When she arrived, she announced, "Gomennasai!" Her speech was slower than others in Rokugani, as she was still getting used to the language.

[Shinjo Liu Fei]

While Liu Yue offered the apology, Liu Fei leaned forward on her saddle as Gokiburi came to a stop and a rest. Looking between the two skittish Samurai with a twisted little grin.

With a moment, and feeling a touch of that pleasing feeling of superiority, she asked, Liu Fei's Rokugani was more up to speed but still held that touch off that seemed commonplace among the Unicorn, "Come to watch our Horses have you, Samurai-sama?"

[Shinjo Monkhbaatar]

"Perhaps there is something symbolic there. They are both cautious because they do not understand each other. But perhaps with understanding, they could be less concerned about the other's actions."

Kogo looks to Noburu, who swats at something in the grass and then looks innocently at Kogo. Kogo mutters under her breath. "Or maybe cats are just contrary."

"Well there is that... but as important and close to us as they are, a horse still sees the world through a horses eyes and a lion through a lions eyes," he chuckles at that. "It's their relationships to us that make them more than what nature intended. Which I guess isn't unlike how our relationships to the Kami made us more than what human nature intended."

Moving to the saddle and puling a small stake and rope from it, he ties off the reigns and stakes the rope to the ground to keep Meushi from running off. After that he moves closer to Kogo. "I've never been so close to a real live lion. Usually the best practice is to avoid them. But this seems like an opportunity to be embraced."
