I had alligator tail in Florida, it was pretty good.

I haven't had a lot of weird stuff by "western" standards only because I keep being able to find new things that aren't made of organs or unsavory animal bits. The most interesting thing I ever ate were mango pickles! it's like a condiment, you eat it with rice. Very strong flavor, very bitter.

What do they taste like

Awful. They taste awful.

In my recollection they basically taste like whatever sauce they've been cooked in, with a slightly "oceany" edge, since they're usually dried and rehydrated. The one time I was offered one I disliked the papaya it was served in rather more (but I'm idiosyncratically fussy about some tropical fruits that others love). The texture was a bit like some other dried-and-rehydrated sea things like jellyfish, or fresh cooked octopus--a little crisp, a little squidgy, a little chewy.

They're considered medicinal so they're really popular in some places, sometimes even to the point of posing environmental conservation problems.

I was disappointed by alligator. It was just like very chewy pork. Maybe I got a 'traditionally' overcooked piece.

Last night played the new Dresden Files card game. Tough tough co-op game (we lost three times in a row) Still, a lot of fun even if you don't know the setting, and plays relatively fast.

I've been out of the CCG/LCG circuit for a long time now, so I'm no help there. Just can't justify the expense anymore.
