My advice for getting into threads for new Players:

1. If a thread is not marked Closed, it is fair game, there should be few of these short of being in someone's yurt/private room or an area that has limited access. If you are nervous then PM the thread starter, they will usually be inviting.

2. Speaking of PMs, that is an excellent way to reach out to players and create threads, especially if you are interested in meeting that character. Planning a thread in advance is totally fine.

3. There are some usual popular locations which tend to generate spontaneous threads, the Baths... the Dojo... or courtyards/garden areas tend to be rife with Open threads. So look in those areas if you want to meet people.

4. Take it slow, it may be tempting to fill every time slot in five minutes but it can also be overwhelming. Find your pace.

5. Remember you will have multiple threads going on at once you don't have to end your late morning thread to start or continue a late afternoon thread, this can make things timey whiney, but we all get used to it.

Im dating someone from Taiwan and they said they had never heard of it before coming to the states. No one in their family is.

Im dating someone from Taiwan and they said they had never heard of it before coming to the states. No one in their family is.

I think it's the thought they have are, or believed to have higher rates of lactose intolerance due to traditional diets but I think in modern eras with so much global trade and homogenization of foods in many modern nations this is probably more hearsay than anything.

There's degrees of tolerance. Most people in the world are what's known as Lactase Nonpersistent, which means that after infancy they have reduced activity of the enzyme that breaks lactose down into useful bits. This is true for something like 90-95% of East Asians. For Scandinavians and Dutch it's only true for 1-5%. Most other ethnicities fit somehere in between.

But having reduced activity of the enzyme doesn't mean you can't consume lactose. It's just a matter of degrees.

Plus, there's quite a difference between processed and unprocessed dairy products.

Stuff like that is really fascinating to me.

I recently learned that chili peppers were native only to the Americas amd then through how extensive the trade networks the Dutch had they spread like wildfire into the cuisine of the world.

With how much curry uses the peppers I would have naievely thought they were native to the regions that make curry!
