To me Agnostic means you think "Some religion/faith could be real, or there could be a higher power, but I dunno."

Atheist means "There is 100% NO faith/religion that is real"

Where disbeliever would be something along the lines of "I don't need to follow Bushido because reincarnation just happens, there is no judgement."

Yeah, disbeliever is more like thinking , "I believe in Catholicism just like everyone else in medieval Europe, but I think God is a jerk because he doesn't stop bad things from happening to good people, his Church is corrupt, and I don't think he actually cares about us."

For some reason I thought that there were some folks that are legitimate atheists. 20 years playing this game and you'd think I wouldn't make silly mistakes like that.

I'd think actual skepticism about the existence of gods would be kinda hard to hold on to when they keep walking around doing stuff in plain sight. It'd be like the bit with the atheists of Discworld who are always getting hit by retributory lightning strikes.

Absolutely, though for some reason I thought I remembered reading about someone who followed the Nothing who thought everything else to be not gods, but just essentially other species. The only actual god was The Nothing where everything came from at the beginning.

It was essentially explained that even Lord Moon and Lady Sun were just people who knew how to use magic, and were super powerful. Reincarnation and spirits were not the actual person who died, but a species looking to take over the world since it was nicer than their own world, etc etc.

The more I think about it, now I remember where I heard it from. It was a custom campaign years ago. I just got it mixed up for an official story somewhere along the line.

And yes, it was a very strange game now that the memory is returning to me.
