Though they did their best to follow the commands he had already taught them the two white pups still now and then tried to run off on their own or wrestle with each other before a sharp sound from their master brought them back to their formation.
Spotting a worthy target, a small prairie dog not near any obvious hole to escape into, al-Kalb slowed to a halt, "Wahid, Ithan - flank." The command is soft so as not to startle their prey but the two dogs, as young as they are, were both bred for the task and already begun their training so quickly spread out from behind him.
Wahid struck first, coming in from the left side of the rodent and issuing a sharp bark before an almost playful lunge. He did not connect but that was not his role at this time. The prairie dog, startled, attempted to flee to the right to escape the hound... only to find Ithan already waiting for it. Ithan's strike was true and her teeth buried in the small creature. Despite her youthful size it was likely enough to finish the prairie dog but it still did not stop Wahid from joining her in savaging their poor victim.
By the time the two puppies, streaked in gore, returned with tails wagging to the smiling al-Kalb there was little left of their target that resembled the living creature it once was. The big man kneels down and give the two dogs some congratulatory scratches - not caring about the blood transferring onto his hands as he does so.
