Mentors

Force users that have an experienced mentor, leader, or teacher can learn force abilities easier than normal due to the guidance of their mentor. This is represented mechanically by allowing the player to pick up one Force ability per game at a reduce cost, 5 xp discount, this only applies to the Base ability. For example a young padawan could learn Influence for 5 XP due to the guidance of their master.

This can only be done once per game, has to be during play, and the reduction only applies to the base ability.

Devi Linwell

This Nautolan woman deals in the production recreational drugs, combat stimulants, and sometimes even poisons. After all, a proper dose for a Wookie could kill a Jawa, let alone a human. Since she's actually involved in the creation process, she does enjoy talking to others knowledgeable in the medical field.

Though she works for the Exchange, she maintains a healthy relationship with the Hutt Cartels and Black Sun. She pays her dues on Nar Shaddaa and tends to hire freelance smugglers rather than keeping any on retainer.

Nas’alrei’aro

Nas’alrei’aro, or Salreia, is one of the top agents for Chiss interests in Hutt Space. She still reports directly to Darth Xevious, but she has some authority to act on her own accord. Even with that authority she is not foolish enough to circumvent him unless in the most dire circumstances. And like many other delegates sent to Nar Shaddaa, she is acclimated to dealing with scum and villainy.

She can often be found in the company of Anhel Rolm in the upper districts of the moon. Her reputation as a flirt precedes her, though it is up to speculation as to whom she truly counts among her paramours.

This is part one of a bigger "preview" or a preview or something or other. Meaning, he is part of a group that I am not going to preview completely outright!

Szar'tek

Szar'tek is the captain of the slaver group known as the Jaw of Oblivion. They are a freelance group, selling to the Hutts and anyone else willing to do business. He comes off much like his fellow Trandoshan; he is brutal and relentless when provoked. However, he possesses a certain cunning behind his bravado.

Much faith is placed into his close friend and quartermaster, Davian. To a lesser extent, this trust extends to the rest of his crew.

Galactic Republic Senate

The Senate and Representatives of the various worlds of the Republic assembled on Coruscant to form the Senate, the governing body of the Republic. This democratic structure gave all member worlds a chance to influence and adjudicate galactic affairs.

In practice it is a bit of a bureaucratic mess and although the Republic has power much of that power is tied into the support of the member worlds. Each member state is bound by law and tradition to defend the Republic but in practice some worlds tend to carry more of the burden than others. All worlds are highly encouraged to provide military support and economic support which keeps the Republic going but in recent years that support has flagged in sectors that feel they are not being adequately protected from the Imperial menace.

First among equals in the Senate is the position of Supreme Chancellor, the figurative head of the Republic. It is not an executive branch and in practice the position does not actually hold more power but they do have the ability to make some executive decisions, hold special sessions of the Senate, and use their position to get around usually protocol. They can also be removed with a vote of No Confidence at any time.

The current Supreme Chancellor is Dorian Janarus a well respected career politician. He is a bit out of touch with the common man but he has the full support of the Republic and has been a guiding hand in these troubled times. He is on good terms with the Jedi Council and often relies on them for aiding with internal matters which does create friction with the Republic Military who believe the Supreme Chancellor should be doing more to counter the Imperial threat.

Jedi Council

The High Council of the Jedi is a shadow of what it used to be before the war, currently they number six members out of the eight and lack a Grand Master to fully unite and guide them. The members of the current council cannot agree on a leader and the growing factions within the Jedi may eventually splinter the order.

• Master Fu’Dall (Ithorian Jedi): One of the oldest members on the council, she is firmly on the side of peace and tradition. She has served in many capacities within the Jedi, though her longest tenure was as a diplomat and advisor for decades. Strong in the Force she spends much of her time teaching younglings and advising members of the Jedi.
  
• Master Raji Xen (Cathar Jedi): One of the newer members of the council Raji Xen has had a storied career as a Jedi Knight and is a veteran of many battles. He is noble, resourceful, and also thoughtful. Despite his martial success he prefers to think his way out of situations and in his latter years is slow to draw his lightsaber. He too supports peace but understands that peace may not be possible with the Sith.
  
• Master Zym (Kel Dor Jedi): Zym is a long term member of the council and is a respected voice who weighs both sides of the conflict. A calm and methodical mind, he has mastered his detachment and yet maintained a universal compassion that few Jedi can hope to match. He is something of a moderate and sees both sides quite clearly.
  
• Master Syo Bakarn (Human Jedi): A gentle light in the darkness, Syo was respected for his wisdom and giving nature. A native of Corellia, Syo was recruited when young and has grown into a model of everything a Jedi should be. He is selfless, noble, and compassionate and is an excellent teacher and guide for younger Jedi. He firmly believes in the peace initiative and sees the Sith as a threat but a threat that can be redeemed.
  
• Master Tam Sadow (Twi’lek Jedi): An ex-slave from Hutt space, Tam has had a hard life but those street instincts and her natural ability to be where she shouldn’t made her an excellent Jedi Shadow. She has had many dubious missions for the Jedi and her time in the field has taught her one thing, not all people are worthy of redemption. It is a dark truth that not every Jedi is willing to accept but she knows it in her bosom and believes that only the eradication of the Sith will bring peace to the Galaxy.
  
• Master Ludo Karr (Human Jedi): An old guard of the Jedi, Ludo served many years as an investigator and Jedi Knight dispatched to dangerous regions for often months a time. In that time he has seen much of the galaxy and despite the belief that peace is the only way he sees war as the only alternative to removing the evil of the Sith from the galaxy. He is quiet most of the time and tends to keep to himself, but when he speaks everyone listens.

The final two seats are empty though it is suspected that Master Satele Shan will be next to take the seat given her heroism and renown.

The Dark Council

A twelve member strong council of the most powerful Sith in the Empire, to be feared but even they are not above ambition, twice in the history of the Sith Empire they have tried to overthrow the Emperor and both times were purged. This current Dark Council has been quite stable and effective in managing the Empire, of course with the watchful eyes of the Emperor’s Wrath none dare to try and hamper the plans of the Emperor. In general all seats are filled but the recent conflict has diminished the council as their numbers are lost to warfare and the first real fractures between the Dark Council members.

They are a council of equals but in practice there are three voices that hold the most weight, Darth Thanaton, Darth Marr, and Darth Arya; the eldest of the three is the mad crone Darth Arya, a powerful seer who is nearly blind from old age but her mind is sharp and her powers have no diminished. She tends to be the deciding vote, and is highly unpredictable. Darth Marr is the head of the Military Sphere and is a well known war hero within the Sith his voice tends to err on the side of what is best for the Empire and not so much self aggrandizement. Darth Thanaton oversees the collection of Sith history and preserving such works for all time, he is also very respected and many Sith see him as the future of the order. Darth Vengen is another influential leader but he tends to follow whatever his old master Darth Arya chooses.

Many believe that a shakeup is coming as Darth Arya is not long for this world, but people have been saying that for a century.

Davian Crosal

Davian is the driving force behind the Jaw of Oblivion's slaving operation. He greases the wheels whenever his Captain’s brute force will not do the trick, which is especially useful when selling slaves. However, that is not to say he is not completely loyal to Szar’tek. The two of them are close friends who would put their lives on the line for one another.

Their relationship started back when Crosal first joined the crew. The human easily became friends with the Trandoshan and many others. However, even with the abhorrent act of slavery he saw a certain line needed to be drawn: children. Together with a good portion of the crew, the duo staged a mutiny against Captain Neim and have since commanded the Jaw of Oblivion in a relatively more "moral" manner.

Intelligence Folks on both sides of the War....

Agent Wren Yuris

An experienced agent going on ten years of service with the SIS, Wren is good at what she does and what she does is not terribly nice. An affable and pleasant personality she is a skilled marksman and the daughter of an ex-Jedi. Her father retired from the Order to marry her mother and they live happily on Coruscant.

She never showed the gift for the Force and joined the Republic military before she was recruited for the SIS. She is an excellent field agent though she does tend to get too attached to her field assets and sometimes takes risks to try and lessen casualties something that has gotten her in trouble from time to time but she is good at what she does. She is one of the top agents stationed at Nar Shaddaa and her cover is that of Technical Expert for the front company run by the SIS.

Watcher 5

Watcher 5 was bred for Imperial Intelligence part of a breeding and genetic alteration program to produce humans with superior cognitive functions he was the first generation of this process and is a great if troubling success. Known for utilizing a great degree of discretion, he was pulled from Cipher status for going off-script one too many times. His track record of success is nearly flawless but too much deviation was troubling for the powers that be.

His cognitive functions serve him better as a Watcher in the field and he is assigned to Nar Shaddaa to oversee operations in the sector. Fluent in several languages, trained in all forms of small arms and hand to hand combat, and with a near photographic memory he can run the operation nearly by himself.

Yet he tends to pick and choose what operations he actually engages in. He sees people as mere assets and tends to be very impersonal referring to people by merely rank or their utility to him.

Cipher-3

Information on Cipher-3 is highly classified; any mention of him in Imperial records is heavily redacted as standard for any Imperial Intelligence asset of his rank. A versatile individual, Cipher-3, is often deployed to volatile hotspots to destabilize governments or provide vital intelligence in remote locations.

Charming, focused, and highly dedicated to the Empire he is a deadly asset in service to the Empire. Cipher-3 works well with Watcher 5, mainly by staying out of his way. He works best alone but is adaptable and very good with identifying a need and fulfilling it; he tends to be proactive instead of reactive and is often a few steps ahead of his targets.

Cipher-3 has a preference for sophistication and class in his own time but is a chameleon at all others.

Criminal Bosses

Kidaja The Hutt

Kidaja the Hutt is an underboss for Dango the Hutt and is a schemer that wants to move up in the world. Cowardly by nature he vents his cowardice into bullying others and extracting as much money for himself as he can muster. He has a solid head for numbers and can always sniff out a shady deal. If Dango needs something handled she charges Kidaja to fix it.

Ryssa Lim

Ryssa Lim is a Devaronian that serves the Exchange as a crime boss, she operates in the lower districts and runs drugs, slaves, whatever she can get her hands on. She runs protection rackets and makes sure the Hutts get their cut which allows her to run the lower districts with little impunity. They get their money and she keeps her little empire. Something affects the Exchange, she is the one fix it with violence.

Ras Urdo

Ras Urdo works for the Black Sun, a cybernetically enhanced human, he used to be a solider and then bounty hunter and now is a major boss for the Black Sun. Violent but controlled, he sticks to the Upper districts and makes sure to keep the Hutts off his back by paying them their cut. He makes a good business in slave trading and spice, and weapons on the side. Business is good.

Vatou

Vatou.png

Vatou is an ex-padawan of Master Garrick Lorne with no aptitude towards fighting. After he failed to achieve knighthood, the selkath decided to run an orphanage due to the war's increasing demands. He has proven to be adept at both administrative work and raising the kids under his care.

He received a message from the Jaw of Oblivion not long after their mutiny. The deal they concluded on was a routine meetup on Nar Shaddaa where the slaver crew could hand off the children to him. In return, all he must do is keep secrecy. However, Vatou is not a man of subtlety. Though he has tried to cover his trail, after a few years the pattern starts to reveal itself to anyone who cares enough to investigate the headmaster of an orphanage.

Side Jobs

There are many opportunities but the most mundane is to freelance for some quick work for pay. This takes two time slots and can be done once a day. The basic pay for this is 100 credits for this work. This requires a skill check versus Average difficulty, success on this roll nets 100 credits, a failure earns 50 credits for shoddy work. Each additional success increases this pay by 25 credits and each Advantage increases the total by 10 credit. Threat reduces the total by 10 credits and a Despair means you did so terrible you don't get paid at all. Triumph doubles the pay for excellent work.

Another way to make money is try your hand at Huttball, they pay 75 credits for amateurs and 150 credits total if you win, this includes the 75 credits. Playing Huttball can be done once per time slot.

Many people on Nar Shaddaa require a bit of cleanup after they commit certain crimes, such as the elimination of rivals or a drunken escapade with one too many deaths. Chax charges a premium for getting in the way of what passes for ‘justice’ among criminals. At times, he can even be arranged to frame someone else. Such an act costs even more credits and requires some prep work.

The good doctor is not licensed at all for medical duties; she is an animal biology researcher, not a medical professional. Her position as such on the Jaw of Oblivion began when she sought passage from anyone willing to smuggle her. During her travels, the slaver group underwent a mutiny. Szar’tek, in his rage, demanded that she patch up his crew during and after the struggle despite her protests.

Since then, she has stayed with the crew in fear of asking to leave. A small consolation is that she knows that the crew will stick their necks out for her. On that, she is unsure if it is out of self-preservation or camaraderie.

Hm, time for another preview :3. I feel like I haven't posted many Sith so here we go :3

Lord Ralnorrei

Lord Ralnorrei started at the Korriban Academy as a mere slave of little merit. She was taken in by a Lord of little influence after barely passing through the trials. However, it only took her a couple months before she usurped her master and took on the title of Lord for herself. Her superiors have had a mixed reaction, from abject disdain, to ambivalence, and even fear for a few. For the time being, she has shown complete deference to those who outrank her.

As for her trip to Nar Shaddaa, it is clear she is looking for some way to increase her power. She has already enlisted the help of her close friend, Lord Haydriss, but it appears that she is looking for even more aid.
