Monks aren't of samurai class, so I don't think a child of a monk could become a ronin. Maybe they could be adopted into the monastery as a baby monk though.

In other curious social issues, I wonder what happens to Butaj's Black Sheep disadvantage? My initial guess is that he becomes a Bayushi Black Sheep, with all Bayushi despising him, while the Moto family could decide that he wasn't so bad after all!

Mother is a nun, but father is a samurai... hence ronin is a possibility. Many ronin have a background with a samurai parent+non samurai parent.

I can fully see the Black Sheep carrying over to the Scorpion too. But mechanically, iirc (I've put away all my L5R books for now after this game ended) it would only limit him from advancing in his clan's schools unless he finds a willing teacher?

I expect that's true for legitimate children. Any child of Yuki would obviously be illegitimate.

It's true for illegitimate children. As long as there's some proof of lineage, they are generally considered samurai.

Great dishonor and quite the infamy for him and the kid. And said nun too. That's the kind of stuff that could lead to Cast Out-disadvantage for Monks.

The only "honorable" solution if he wants to claim the kid as his is if it is adopted into his family with Hotaru... but I doubt that would happen.

Yeah, I think it'd be a fun RP opportunity. It would be interesting to see what happens if our various characters cross paths again in a future game.

I had a couple matches that Baatar would've given Blissful. I hadn't planned to give anyone Bitter, but if Yuki stuck around to get married I suppose we would've had to trade Bitter Betrothals.

At least Baatar got a puppy out of the miai!

As to potential children. Yuki is actually going to generally try to keep from having children. If she does have any kids, they will probably join the orphans at a temple (which is a not uncommon practice) or, if Butaj recognizes them, they would become ronin, I think?
