It's a very idealized kind of love. Hantei and his bride, Doji and Kakita......

Rokugan idolizes the pure love bound together by the Heavens, aka the kharmic love kind of thing, because it is destiny that they are together. And Love is not the same as Desire. I found Suki to do an excellent job of preaching the differences between the sacred love that Benten bestows, and the sinful love that is Desire.

Rokugan frowns upon Desire, because that is the kind of thing that will make samurai forget their Duty, act rashly, or do unseemly things. And the three Sins are closely tied together, so committing one Sin will easily lead to the other two.

Rokugani love the idea of Love, but when faced with the pragmatic choice of let the destined lovers have their way...they choose the political expedient of arranged marriages.

Well for the most part. Heck given most of the plays involving Love, and not involving a Kami, they almost seem to prefer Desire get involved. Makes for a better story.

When I'm trying to play somebody more Shintaoist (hi Myo-Myo!) I've also explained it to myself that "good" love--love that's compatible and complementary with honor--is a reward for good karma in past lives while love that causes suffering or invites you to sin is bad past karma working itself out. If you manage to survive the latter without falling to sin your next life will be much better thanks to all the penance. XD
