[Ide Amaya]

"I have asked a great favour of you, is there anything you might ask of me? I should like to return your kindness in some small manner."

[Seppun Hitako]

"Hmm. Let me think. Ah, do you happen to know if any of those in your clan have heard the kami, since returning?"

[Ide Amaya]

"My knowledge of such things is limited, but I have not heard my kin speaking of such things," her answer is honest, if overly simplistic.

[Seppun Hitako]

"And the Iuchi are the only ones that are, ah, shamans among you?"

[Ide Amaya]

"That is correct. The Shinjo, Otaku, and Moto teach bushi schools."

[Seppun Hitako]

"And your own family are the Courtiers? Only, what courts are there out there? Or is there another term that you use?"

[Ide Amaya]

"We refer to ourselves as Emissaries. You are quite right that was are Courtiers without courts, but even in a place such as the Burning Sands there is an important role for those who can act diplomatically, to meet and mediate and negotiate."

[Seppun Hitako]

"Interesting. I seem to recall, from early stories, that Ide was originally the husband of Otaku. Would it be too forward to ask if that close relationship has carried forward till this time, between the two families?"

[Ide Amaya]

"It is not so close as it once was. There was a time when the Unicorn went four ways, and it was with the Moto that the Ide travelled. Perhaps seemed that the Moto were most in need of the Ide influence. But that was well before my time."

[Seppun Hitako]

"Oh? I hadn't heard the clan had split up at one time. What inspired them to return together? For that matter, what inspired the split in the first place?"

[Ide Amaya]

"The tale goes that, to defeat an enemy the Ki-rin encountered, the passage by which they left Rokugan was destroyed. Unable to return that way, the Clan went four ways to seek new paths. But, Shinjo no Kami cried out in pain and all the Ki-rin returned to her, never to be parted again."

[Seppun Hitako]

"Oh? Interesting. There is so much we will wish to learn of your wanderings. I'm, of course, always curious."

[Ide Amaya]

She nodded, "no doubt we have many, many things to tell. And now that we have access to the Empire's libraries, I should hope that permanent records might be committed."

[Seppun Hitako]

Hitako nods. "I had wondered how well you retained knowledge with a mobile lifestyle. It seems a difficult thing, having no ability to save your writings anywhere but on your horses."

[Ide Amaya]

"We keep our history in our hearts, our voices, our songs. Some has been lost, no doubt, but the stories of our Clan have been passed from mouth to mouth for centuries."
