Hunting the Unknown (Day 5, EM)

[Matsu Kogo]

She nods. "But I think also one discovers that in gripping them too tightly, one causes them to slip through their fingers. A bold hunter may seek to chase a deer that is farther away than he usually chooses because of its size. But in doing so, he may scare the whole herd and leave with nothing." She sips some water. "The question is, when is one being bold versus when is one being overconfident? If I could answer that, I suspect I would be some kind of sage. "

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"There is also the dilemma of waiting too long." he added. "Allowing an opportunity to pass because it might not be ideal or too difficult is only wise if more opportunities present the.selves. it is a difficult balance."

[Matsu Kogo]

She looks at him and she nods. "You speak wisdom Shinjo-san. One cannot allow concern of making a mistake to overpower one." She finishes her onigiri and washes it down.

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"One should not have regrets." he nodded. "In most situations, it is better to fail than to never try. At least you can learn from failure."

[Matsu Kogo]

She looks at him, pondering his words. "There is something in what you say Shinjo-san. It would likely be far worse to regret what one had not done, then what one had done and hoped the best for." She ponders for a moment.

There are worse things than trying. There is living as if you are already dead.

"Do you think a great deal when you are out as a scout Shinjo-san? It seems you have thought many of these things through."

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"There's not much else to do, most times." he shrugged. "Most of my thoughts are likely gibberesh, though. You just were lucky not to hear any of that."

[Matsu Kogo]

She laughs. "You are too modest Shinjo-san. I am sure there are many worthy thoughts within your head."

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"Along with plenty of nonsense." he laughed."But, right now I'm thinking about what your thoughs might be."

[Matsu Kogo]

She pauses. " They are not much to wonder at, I am afraid. A beautiful day, an interesting companion, Noburu at my side. I am content, largely. I wish there was something to hunt, but there are worse things than a gentle morning. "

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"It is a shame we couldn't find any game." he agreed. "But, it's nice to be away from everyone else and simply talk. We can ride some more, as well, if you'd like."

[Matsu Kogo]

She smiles. "I would like that. I find the feel of the wind on my face to be exhilarating." She stands, dusting herself off. Noburu stands along with her.

[Shinjo Kemuri]

He did the same. "I can ensure you get that feeling. But, you will need to hold on tight."

[Matsu Kogo]

She nods. "I have galloped once or twice before. But it is still exciting."

[Shinjo Kemuri]

"Would you like to ride alone?" he asked after considering her answer.

[Matsu Kogo]

She looks at him and considers. "I have not galloped alone, so if we wish to go at speed, I suspect it would be wisest together. I am still new to the craft of horsemanship, though I enjoy it greatly."
