[Day 1 - Late Evening] Campfire Stories

[Matsu Kogo]

Kaiya was glancing around from yurt to yurt, a task he had seemingly been doing from the moment the feast came to a close.

This definitely isn't it. Then where..?

There.. an open campfire. He would just have to seek answers directly.

"Good evening, everyone. This one is Fairuz Kaiya. Might I share in your fire for a time?"

"Good evening Fairuz-sama. It is not my fire, but I believe honorable Shinjo-sama has opened it to all, that we might join each other in story telling." Kogo looks at him, hoping he is better at stories than she is.

[Moto Khulun]

“Join us Fairuz-sama, there is always enough heat for a future friend. You drink kumis?” she offers.

[Fairuz Kaiya]

"Thank you," he replied as he found a proper place to seat himself, "kumis.. not before tonight's dinner, but it was found to be agreeable. Fermented drink does seem universal, after all."

"Sharing in stories, eh? Fascinating! There is still so much to be learned."

Hmm...

[Moto Baatar]

"And what Fortune would you be, little man?" she jests slapping Baatar on the back.

"Meh, all the best fortunes are already taken," Baatar complained. "There's already a Fortune of War, and a Fortune of Riding. I guess I could be a Fortune of Sitting by the Fire, but ... it isn't heroic enough. I need to do some great deed so that I can be the Fortune of it!"

[Shinjo Hanashi]

"Usagi Tomoe said she was a historian, and trained with the Phoenix even. I'm betting she has some good ideas on how the different Fortunes came to be and how many there are. Maybe you can talk to her about it?" Hanashi smiles a bit at that, being helpful always felt good after all. And the Hare seemed like she was very interested in getting a husband.

"Fairuz?" Hanashi bows a bit. "I don't remember the name. What clan are you from friend? And be welcome at the fire!"

[Moto Khulun]

She frowns and says, "I don't like that Rabbit."

[Fairuz Kaiya]

"Fairuz?" Hanashi bows a bit. "I don't remember the name. What clan are you from friend? And be welcome at the fire!"

Just take a deep breath...

"What a busy few months it has been for the Unicorn, for the efforts of their neighbors to be lost in the events of the return! It has been the Fairuz who have been working to aid the Empire in understanding certain customs," his eyes shot a quick glance at the Moto present, "that would be accompanying our lost brethren."

His tone quickly shifted, however, to a more academic one...

"Our family is a new one, and that is a more complicated question than it first appears. The shortest answer is that 'House Fairuz' is not part of any of the clans, major or minor."

[Moto Khulun]

"But you have name, better than no-name Mantis! You think you're good enough for a strong Unicorn?" she asks.

[Shinjo Hanashi]

"You know our customs then? How?" He crosses his arms, standing from his crouch.

[Fairuz Kaiya]

"Hah!" Kaiya hadn't actually directly conversed with anyone from the Mantis, but the Moto's barb amused him regardless. The one he saw at dinner seemed a bit off, anyway. "As for strength.." a quick pat of his own belly, "the plans have survived contact with dinner, and we will press on in hopes of surprising and outflanking a bride."

Wait, what are we talking about?

At the Shinjo's question..
"Fairuz-sama, our founder and the current Jade Champion, is the son of a man from Medinaat Al-Salaam who traveled here and married a Rokugani shugenja. General knowledge of the Burning Sands is passed on as part of our training, perhaps out of remembrance to that legacy."

[Otomo Tenzo]

Wandering around the area after the welcome dinner earlier in the evening, Tenzo sighted the glow of the fire and the various figures gathered around it. He wandered in close so that he might introduce himself and offered a polite bow to all of them as he did so.

"Good evening, samurai-samas, I am Otomo Tenzo - is there perhaps room for one more to join by the fire this evening? I hear that around the fire is where the best stories are shared."

[Matsu Kogo]

"Hah!" Kaiya hadn't actually directly conversed with anyone from the Mantis, but the Moto's barb amused him regardless. The one he saw at dinner seemed a bit off, anyway. "As for strength.." a quick pat of his own belly, "the plans have survived contact with dinner, and we will press on in hopes of surprising and outflanking a bride."

Wait, what are we talking about?

At the Shinjo's question..

Kogo perks at this. "Do you have stories that are passed down in your family of his time in the Sands? Or perhaps of his return? That seems like a possibly fitting choice for the first night of the Unicorn clan's return."

She tossed the Imperial a skin of kumis in reply.

"This fire is open to all," she offered.

"So your family is from the Burning Sands?" the youngest Moto asked. "Do they let Burning Sands people come to miai? I thought this was for Rokugan people."

[Moto Khulun]

"A historian?" Baatar echoed, looking unimpressed. "Sounds boring. Is she boring?"

"She is boring," Khulun says.
