[Day 1 - Late Evening] Campfire Stories

[Moto Khulun]

A grin at that. The Moto knew the value of a spoken tale.

And he's never met an Ikoma to prove him different. "Uchibong?"

“Some sorcerer that tricked the clan samurai and talked with the dead; I fear no sorcerer. He lies dead now, but Uchibong was quite dangerous, I reckon,” she says in reply.

[Shinjo Hanashi]

"Ah. Well, of course you do not fear it, for you are Moto and fear has no home in your bones." He looks thoughtful a moment, "I learned this evening that the Emperor has elevated men and women into becoming Fortunes while we were gone. There are minor clans as well, and one of them, the Hare, had a founder named Reichin, who the Hare I spoke with said is now the Fortune of Heroes, because of the Emperor's words."

"If so, I expect this Reichin Fortune to be knowing much of the Moto, eh?" He grins a bit. "Though not nearly as much as Bishamon."

[Moto Khulun]

“Why they so minor?” she asks honestly.

“Show me this Fortune and if he knows not of Moto, he’ll learn today!”

[Shinjo Hanashi]

"You know, I asked that. The Hare minor clan..." He nods a moment, "Usagi Tomoe she said her name was, very fond of cheese. She said they have fewer people and less land then the Great Clans. No Son or Daughter of the Sun and Moon to have ever guided them. They were made by the Hantei, to fulfill duties or because of great deeds."

His brow furls in thought. "Perhaps because the Hantei has no clan of his own, but the Empire, he makes minor clans to fulfill those things that need doing. Like Shinjo-kami made the Marta, to tell the tales and remember."

[Moto Khulun]

“Makes sense,” she says in reply.

“So no one has crushed these minor clans? Take their lands and plunder their treasures? They must be strong indeed.”

[Shinjo Hanashi]

"Could be. Maybe there is a law like Shinjo's, that protects them? The Hantei must be strong, if his words make one into a god. If the Emperor has made those clans, who would seek to anger him?"
He frowns a bit. "There is many a tale I have yet to hear, to understand the way of things here."

[Moto Baatar]

"I never heard of no Reichin Fortune before," Baatar protested. "Is that really a thing? Becoming a Fortune because the Emperor says so? Why doesn't he make us all Fortunes then?"

[Moto Khulun]

“Hai, we should get Baatar named a fortune,” she jokes.

[Shinjo Hanashi]

"If we were all Fortunes, there'd be no one on Nigen-do to do the hard work." Comes Hanashi's response, though truly Baatar's idea seemed to warrant thought.

[Moto Baatar]

"Maybe there's a Fortune of Farming and a Fortune of Milkmaids that we can get to do all the work while we feast with the Fortune of Pork Chops and the Fortune of Kumis," Baatar suggested. The young rider's understanding of theology was admittedly somewhat incomplete.

[Moto Khulun]

"And what Fortune would you be, little man?" she jests slapping Baatar on the back.

[Matsu Kogo]

A brief nod of contentment at that. "While we wait, may I ask you a question, Matsu-sama?"

Kogo nods at his words, but is somewhat interrupted by the Moto's entrace. She watches the Moto in quiet amazement, which she covers after a short span. "Greeting Moto-sama. I am glad to share the fire with you tonight."

[Moto Khulun]

“A lonely fire makes for a sad night, best to crowd it with family and friends for a happy hearth,” she replies loudly in greeting.

[Matsu Kogo]

“I feel warmer already, my ears bleed from the words of these strangers… they speak at length about nothing. Shiny words, smelling of goat shit,” she chuckles.

“Give me the strong tales of our kin!”

Kogo looks somewhat surprised but also kind of pleased. This is more like some of my Lion kin than I could have hoped. Perhaps I will be able to make my way here. Goat shit though? Bayushi-san would be upsseeet.

"I would be glad to hear these stories Moto-sama. From what I hear, your family is famous for its skill at arms and its strength in battle. I am sure you have many powerful stories of your family."

[Fairuz Kaiya]

Kaiya was glancing around from yurt to yurt, a task he had seemingly been doing from the moment the feast came to a close.

This definitely isn't it. Then where..?

There.. an open campfire. He would just have to seek answers directly.

"Good evening, everyone. This one is Fairuz Kaiya. Might I share in your fire for a time?"
