While not usable by players the first game, here are the rules for Biotics since they can be used against you. (Powers to come later)

Armor, Equipment, and Weapons

Hello folks.

So, with all the talk of Star Wars and delving into the system to learn it for the upcoming Dapper and Nekoinu game, I have had a moment of inspiration.

I can easily convert the SWRPG into a Mass Effect RPG. That said, how many people would actually be interested in playing? It would be a full conversion, so all the rules would be made available on the forum (no need to buy books this way!)

It would take me some time to do said conversion, so I have no idea a time-frame of when the game would go live.

Timeline wise, for those familiar with the series, I would either set it in the First Contact Wars, when Humans first began exploring the universe outside of the Sol system and were attacked by the Turians. This would be a human/turian only PVP campaign, but offer the player-base a chance to completely rewrite the Mass Effect story.

Or I would set the game during the events of Mass Effect 1, when Saren went rogue and the Geth were attacking. This would be an any species in the game type campaign, but have a tighter bounds on overall campaign story.

I am super interested in the idea, but I don't want to take the time to set it all up if I wouldn't be able to get a player-base (as I don't really have connections to do IRL tabletop games anymore)

So let me know your thoughts!

I have heard people like the Mass Effect setting. I know literally nothing about it beyond the words in this thread. Could we get some flavor of it for those who don't know enough to say if we'd be interested? I do love the mechanics of the SW RPG.

Alright, I think you sold me. :)

Gut reaction: No interest in biotics, so I'd be fine with either time setting. I agree that the sense of discovering brand new, crazy stuff would be awesome, so I'd be going for plenty of that. Lots of opportunities to react like: Oh, seriously? This now too?!?!

Are you going to make everyone be human (just like BioWare, those jerks...) Or are you going to open up other races?

SO, I have a few options.

My thought was for the very first PbP, we all start as humans. Set it in the First Contact War (Humanities exposure to aliens ever, the misunderstandings, and the battle it brought)

This gives players a chance to experience first hand the excitement, discovery, and conflicts that we all just saw here in Dark Edge. It also allows the playerbase to write the campaign story divorced from the source materials. (Maybe the Humans DIDN"T win the war, maybe they were more aggressive about joining the council at start, etc etc)

OR

I could set the game during the events of Mass Effect 1, when Saren went Rogue and the Geth were the major enemy. Allowing all of the species from the original trilogy. We would still be able to have a huge impact on the campaign setting storyline, but a lot more of humanities roles and how they are viewed/how they view others will be cemented by the backstory.

I'm guessing most folks would prefer the second option. As a GM I would prefer the first (simply for ease of conversion work to start, leading to getting the game ready sooner)

But I am flexible! I view GMing as a way for my players to tell stories. I just provide the backdrop. SO if I get the feeling that the first option wouldn't have as many players as the second, ill go the second!

Unfortunately Samai, Andromeda is not on my radar (YET!)

I actually like option one. If it's going to be human-centric, might as well go all the way. Plus, it's a great starting point.

But if not, totally playing a vorscha or batarian.

Option one, for the sake of your sanity, is totally sensible.

**just really wants to be able to be Krogan or Turian one day**

I will guarantee that if the first game goes well and people want to continue with the world, all subsequent games would be open to all species.

If we go with option 1, would folks want the option the play as human and turian, working against each other (a PvP game) or just humans (Players vs GM)
