Dark Edge Village

Sitting in the middle of the fence, with her lantern atop the pole at her left, Kitakuhime dries out her tears looking at the multitude of sheeps, boars and yaks in the fields.

"There are no fucking goats here!"

She curses to the wind, remind herself of the Governor's threat.

Butaj is restless that night, and wanders about the camp as if some ill hanging in the air could descend upon the village. Hearing the odd cry, he paces toward the pens. Whether to find a goat or to protect it, he isn't sure yet. Seeing Kitakuhime, however, he sobers even more and rushes to her side.

"What is wrong, Sayyeda? Why do you need a goat at this hour?"

She looks at Butaj with furious eyes. She quints them even further looking at his chin, where she razor bladed a previous goatee. "Curses! You, too! No, I can't find one."

"Butaj could prepare a lamb for you if you have a craving. Goats are not as tasty." Her fury is absorbed and responded to with a smile. Butaj is incredulous but he at least knows that he has to weather a storm and trudge toward some peace that she cannot reach yet. He rubs his stubble.

"I like both. What's the problem?" She crosses her arms and pushes off a sheep with her foot. "Roasted lamb and noodles. Goat cheese and sushi. Coffee and tea."

Butaj frowns. "Before Butaj gathers all this it will be breakfast time but if this is what Princess Kitaku needs Butaj will provide. Butaj knows there must be a reason for everything Sayyeda does, a very honorable one, even if Butaj doesn't know what it is." He hops over the pen to get a lamb.

"Let's hunt." She jumps at his side. "A goat. A big, strong, succulent one."

"Let's." Butaj explores the pen in search for a goat.

It is clear neither one of them knows what they're doing. Kitakuhime runs back to fetch the lantern, and they depart into the dark animal pen filled with fluffy sheeps in search of the game's reward.

"Now I know why they turn their noses at you."

"Why?" Sheep-locked and fluffed, Butaj looks back at her in confusion.

"Your sensei must feel terrible. Your hunting skills are as awful as mine!" She push sheep aside, trying to open a path, but they keep closing in.

It had been more difficult than he had imagined to leave Mei's side. There was a strong temptation to spend the night with her and a suspicion that she would not object. But, they had risked enough scandal today and Kemuri was unwilling to jeopardise everything the'd discussed all evening.

But now, he couldn't sleep. He came to the stables, but there was no need to disturb Sarangerel's rest. Instead, he wandered by the animal pens, stopping and staring curiously when he found two of his clansmen doing something?, What were they doing?

"Mina-sama?" he called out, lifting his lantern.

Butaj has his own method to move through the goats. He lifts the one before him, puts it aside, advances. Rinse, repeat. "Butaj could wrestle the mightiest wild goat and clip its heart in a heartbeat but he agrees others are better in tracking them." He then looks who's calling.

She curls her fists, rising it up. "That's what I'll do to this goat, once I f-- Nani?" The girl blinks and looks to the other side of the fence.

Kuso. Slander alert! the Otaku princess freezes, slowly turning herself to greet. Oh, it's an Unicorn. Kitakuhime squints her eyes trying to recognize the silhouette. Kuso. It's Kemuri-san.

"H-hi. There!"

"Ah, Otaku-sama, Moto-sama..." he looks around, wondering if he'd actually gone to sleep after all. "Is there... something I could help with?"
