Rotten Eggs or Tea? (D4, EA, Fukawa's Yurt)

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

"My sister has been spending time with Bayushi Suteichi-san." She paused, wondering if giving such information to the Doji was a mistake. However, Yue concluded that their meetings were by no means a secret. "They are not getting along as well as those other two," she added.

[Doji Fukawa]

Fukawa nodded.

"The Scorpion are known to be very charming, but it is perhaps just as well that your sister has...an excellent sense of decorum." she replied.

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

Yue shrugged. "I cannot think of anyone else to mention." She tilted her head. "Have you heard anything of the sort, Doji-san?"

[Doji Fukawa]

Fukawa shakes her head.

"Not really. For the most part, I think most of the samurai here are on their best behavior." she replies.

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

"Hai. That is for the best." She paused and perked her brow. "Doji-san, is it improper to wrestle with a suitor?"

[Doji Fukawa]

Now it was the Doji's turn to have her eyebrows go up.

"An interesting question, Shinjo-san." she replied. "There are only a few places where wrestling in general is appropriate. Official sumai matches in a ring, practice matches in a dojo, or in the life-or death situation that is a battlefield. The middle of a games night, for example, is an inappropriate place to wrestle."

Fukawa sips her tea.

"One hopes that they are not fighting their suitor on the battlefield, though that would make for a lovely tragic story. Marriage between sumai would seem to be a rare enough instance to not worry about for now, so that leaves dojo practice."

Another sip of tea.

"Hmm, it probably varies from clan to clan. Clans with a very strong military tradition like the Lion or the Crab would encourage measuring the physical strength and combat prowess of their prospective new member. The Crane, on the other hand would probably find it too much to risk. Besides the risk of injury, even a completely chaste practice would leave too much room for damaging rumors to spread, about whether they were wrestling or wrestling."

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

The Shinjo nodded along to the Doji's explanation. As expected, Fukawa was an expert in proper etiquette. "Sou desu ka. It depends on the circumstances then." She smiled, relieved by the answer. "Then I do not have to worry."
