Day 3 [LM] Taking The Field (Expecting)

[Moto Khulun]

Khulun brushes the hair or Oguro with love and care singing a soft song to soothe her companion. It isn’t anything familiar to Rokugani or even probably that good but the woman sings it to keep focused and connect her steed.

[Doji Fukawa]

"Why would you worry about that? Butaj is here to get married to improve the fortunes of his Clan too. Butaj knows that misunderstandings between Doji Fukawa and Butaj are quite symbolic of the problems we may face as Clans in believing one another. But Butaj thinks that when hearts are allowed to speak and not just trained phrases are uttered, good things may prevail. Butaj realises many would call him naive. But for Butaj the world is too complex already for potential friends to be duplicitous to each other." Butaj looks at the young Crane with concern and a bit of anxiety, but also resolve.

Fukawa looks up from the ground briefly at the Moto before returning her gaze groundward.

"Trained phrases and fans are important too, Moto-san. There is more to honor than honesty. True, without honesty, one cannot be honorable. But you cannot live an honorable life just focusing on one of the tenets of bushido." she replies. "My trained phrases and fans are not here to deceive you, Moto-san. No more than wearing kimonos rather than going about naked does."

[Bayushi Suteichi]

Suteichi's eyes widened a bit at the horrid singing of Khulun. He refocused on Imane.

"I...I am...glad to hear that. You liking music and dance. I hope you will join us...."

I thought wounded animals got put out of their misery when they sounded and looked miserable...

"Would you...would like to play another song?" Suteichi asked in hopes to drown out Khulun.

[Otaku Imane]

She brightened at that. "I would be delighted and oh, what a lovely idea Bayushi-san! Perhaps my cousin Khulun would care to join in?"

Imane looked over at her cousin with an encouraging expression before raising the flute to her lips. The song that she began to play was hauntingly beautiful, and like no tune heard in the Empire before the arrival of the Unicorn.

Khulun nods with a smile and follows suit with what she considers some beautiful throat singing and moving dance steps. Her movements are… eclectic. As she accompanies the music of her cousin.

Suteichi's accompaniment was fair considering he was distracted by Khulun's deplorable performance. The blend of flute and samisen was being ruined by the cacophony of Khulun's voice and off beat dances. The song, thankfully over. Suteichi wanted this outing to be over too. It was just be rude not to say something and leave.

"Well. That was...an experience. I think perhaps we should put the instruments away and just talk. Give ourselves a good rest after such a....serviceable and interesting performance. More tea?"

[Moto Khulun]

“You are quite good at music, I should have you duo with Butaj, he is quite good! So talented, don’t you think cousin?” she says taking a seat. She pulls out jerky and adds, “Want some?”

She takes a seat that forms gentle chaperone triangle for the three.

[Otaku Imane]

Imane lowered the flute and gratefully accepted the tea. "Thank you Bayushi-san, this is a most pleasant flavour, your taste is impeccable."

She looked over at Khulun and smiled. "I am very impressed with his samisen skills cousin, and yes Moto Butaj is also a skilled musician. Thank you for the offer but I do not think that jerky would go well with this tea."

Her focus returned to Suteichi and she smiled politely. "What would Bayushi-san care to discuss?"

[Bayushi Suteichi]

So many thoughts ran through his mind and not a single one of them were good. He looked at the jerky she offered and was actually somewhat interested in it.

"Is this jerky like unto your...bay-con?!"


Suteichi returned his attention to Imane. "Well tell me about yourself. Obviously you are a talented performer. I am sure you are also a skilled warrior?"

[Moto Khulun]

“It is good meat, you like it,” she says handing him a piece and then adds, “Otaku are strong warriors, it is known. Otaku are the lighting, and Moto the Thunder...”

She chews on her jerky and adds, “Scorpion, strong fighter or strong talker?”

[Otaku Imane]

"Yes, it is as my cousin says: we are the lightning. Perhaps I will show you this afternoon in the archery competition, although my preferred weapon is the sword." She looked over at her katana, which was strapped to the saddle of her horse.

"I graduated at the top of my class, and was taught by the most honoured sensei of the Shiotome school." This was known, it was no boast, just a statement of fact.

Suteichi reluctantly takes the piece and tries it. It was tough. Eventually he got it tho where he could manage and actually enjoyed it. He just did not let on that he did.

"Quite a unique...treat. To answer you, the Scorpion have many weapons with which to fight. Two pincers and one tail. So many focus on just one that they miss the other. I could be talking and you will listen all the while not focusing on the sword that just went into you. Or you could be preparing for battle or even a duel. So focused you are on your victory and yes, you may even achieve it. You did not focus on the fact that one word in court could erase your precious and glorious victory because it came out that your enemy's water supply was poisoned or the person you cut in a first strike duel was infected with a rare poison."

Suteichi drank tea to wash down the jerky.

"You're listening to me now. My words have your attention...Would like for me to refill your tea, Lady Moto-sama?" he said with a smile.

"Top of your class?! Most impressive. I look forward to seeing your skill later."
