[D6 EE] Guidance

(Expecting)

Dong-Ha had left his tent early, earlier than he really should have, considering his promise to Tomoe. Figuring he had time to kill and some thinking to do, the young Unicorn made his way to the shrine, or what remained of it. He had waded through the camp and while he had managed to avoid the largest of puddles, the hem of his robes was damp with mud. Dong-ha hoped that Tomoe would not mind.

Sighing, the young mystic stopped by what remained of the torii and leaned against the old stone, trying to recall some of his first lessons.

With the nicer weather, Suki had taken her time in returning to the shrine. Looking up at the twilight sky, she wandered at a relaxed pace.

Discovering the Iuchi leaning against the remnants of the shrine, she cleared her throat and offered a respectful bow. As usual with dealing with samurai, she waited to see if he'd acknowledge her before speaking.

Woken from his reverie, Dong-Ha looked up. "Oh.. good evening." He was going to add 'samurai-san', only realize that the newcomer did not actually look much like a samurai. "How I may be of assistance?"

"Good evening, sama," she offered. "This one did not wish to intrude. She was simply seeking to offer devotions at the shrine." She bowed respectfully, low, her gaze down-turned. "Of course, if you intend to do the same, this one can pray at another time."

"Oh, I beg your pardon." Dong-Ha offered the woman an another bow. "I am Iuchi Dong-Ha, son of Iuchi Dong-Suk."

"You are welcome, of course." he moved to the side, allowing the woman an entrance to the torii. Not much else remained of the shrine. "No, I was not praying... more lost in my thoughts."

"This one is Suki, sister of the Order of Benten from Mamoru Ryotei Toshi," she offered another bow. "It is a pleasure to meet you Iuchi-sama."

Moving into the remnants of the shrine, the nun bowed and offered a few devotions to the Fortunes, and more to Benten in particular.

"Order of Benten..." the phrase was not familiar to the young mystic and his tone betrayed as much. "Well met, Suki-san." he avoided the involuntary smirk her name almost brought to his lips. "What brings Suki-san here, then?"

"The Order of Benten primarily reveres Benten-okami, Fortune of Romantic Love," she offered, hoping the simple explanation wouldn't offend. "When this one's Order heard of the return of the Unicorn, the heads of our temple organized a pilgrimage, that we may bring goodwill and offers of spiritual advisement to the children of Shinjo-kami. When this one heard talk of this miai, she spoke with her masters and gained permission to come to Dark Edge Village. Thusly, she is here to offer both spiritual guidance and aid in forming auspicious pairings that are pleasing to Benten-okami."

Once again she offered a bow, if only to be sufficiently humble. The offer to advise on the Iuchi's thoughts was left implied. She would not be so forward as to pry.

"Uh..huh." Dong-Ha worked to process all the information. "Uh... and how that works out exactly. I mean, don't your vows mean that you don't have much experience on such things?" he asked, somewhat dumbfounded. "No offense meant."

"Members of the Order of Benten follow a slightly different set of vows. Out of respect for Benten-okami, we are permitted to marry and to have a family."

"That said, this one does not concern herself with lacked experiences. Modern historians weren't present for the fall of the Kami, yet still understand the event, and its significance."

"You are? That is... peculiar." Dong-Ha's eyebrows rose. "But it makes sense, yes." After all, you could not serve Benten with your right hand alone. "I have never heard of such, but then again, I have met only so many monks." Suki would be the second he had ever met in Rokugan. The other fellow he had had the honor of meeting had not said much thanks to his oath of silence.

"It seems that the Heavens have heard my plight." he chuckled, eyeing the monk. "Because there is something that both troubles me and concerns Benten-kami."

She returned the chuckle slightly and swiftly, amiable without being dismissive of the Iuchi's concerns.

"Normally this one would suggest moving to somewhere a bit more private to speak of such things. But as we are the only ones present, if Iuchi-sama wishes to do discuss these troubles, then by all means."

"Well, seeing that no-one's around, I think this place could do, just as well. We can always change the topic if someone approaches?" The small hill on which the shrine had laid provided an ample view of the plains surrounding the camp.

"As you say, Iuchi-sama," she bowed her head respectfully and waits for him to continue. She wouldn't push the samurai into discussing these matters. He would do so at his own pace.

"If one had more than one person in mind... well, two. Both of whom could make a loyal and good wife." Dong-Ha started, blushing ever so slightly. "How would one know, which of the two possible unions would be more pleasing to Benten?"
