Suteichi nodded while he continued to strum out soft chords on his samisen.

[Doji Fukawa]

Fukawa nods.

"I agree, Bayushi-san." she says. "I am glad we got to meet today. It's good to spend time in the company of fellow artists. Not that I'm in a hurry to rush off, mind."

[Bayushi Suteichi]

"I would not rush you off and I hope that you no reason to rush off. Do you enjoy the cake?'

[Doji Fukawa]

Fukawa nods.

"It is quite lovely." she agrees. "Are you going to reveal to me that in addition to a poet, and a shamisan player, you are a chef as well, Bayushi-san? I may find it hard to believe that so much artistic talent can be contained in one man at this miai."

[Bayushi Suteichi]

"You'd be surprised by what talents are contained in me Doji-sama. I am afraid to disappoint, cooking is a little lost on me. But where I cannot satisfy one's hunger, I am happy to satisfy the mind. What other talents do you have Doji-sama?"

[Doji Fukawa]

"Ah well, my talents tend to center around brining out the most of my voice." she admits. "Singing, storytelling, oratory. It's almost as if courtiers are expected to talk, rather than run around swinging sharpened metal at each other."

She glances back towards the village.


"I'm not certain how much the Unicorn value courtly talents though. They seem a clan which has a great devotion to military. Not surprising considering they've spent that past centuries riding and fighting outside of the Empire, but it seems like they wish to add even more to their military strength having just arrived here."

[Bayushi Suteichi]

"Hmm.. Well, uplift your voice to me now and I will play along. What do you say?"

[Doji Fukawa]

Fukawa nods.

"Of course, Bayushi-san." she agrees. She thinks for a moment, choosing a song.


"Will you stay by my side?
Quietly, in the gaps in our passion

The singing was good, if not great. Love songs could be tricky, especially considering the current state of the Doji's heart.

Suteichi listened to her voice and accompanied her perfectly.

She's quite good. Pretty good in fact.

[Doji Fukawa]

Fukawa bowed to the Scorpion.

"Not a bad warm-up for tonight, ne?" she offers.

[Bayushi Suteichi]

"No. Not at all. You are quite talented. Very talented to be exact."

[Doji Fukawa]

Fukawa bowed again.

"The real credit belongs to my sensei" she demurs. "Without their rigorous training, I would be just another pretty, wealthy Crane."

She looks back to the Scorpion.

"My compliments to your sensei as well."

[Bayushi Suteichi]

"Domo. So what parts of the Crane lands do you come from?"

[Doji Fukawa]

Fukawa rejoined the Scorpion where they had been sitting, and retook what was left of her share of the cake. It was a very thoughtful treat the Scorpion had provided after all.

"My parents' estate lies near Kyuden Doji. she admits. "Have you been been there, Bayushi-san?"

[Bayushi Suteichi]

"I have not. I have trained at Kyuden Bayushi. My parents are assigned to Ryoko Owari Toshi. The only other contact that I had with other clans courts are Phoenix and Lion."
