Ah, the Axis of Evil. Lion, Scorpion, Phoenix. Fukawa thought.

"Ah, I have heard of Kyuden Bayushi. It along with Kyuden Doji are among the three most luxurious castles with the Empire." she says.

"From appearances at Kyuden Doji, there is not a single blade of grass or small stone left unarranged. It is a land full of gardens, stone gardens, shrines, and flocks of Crane." she says thinking of the beauty of home.


"What is Kyuden Bayushi like?" she asks, not really sure.

Yes please bore me with your bragging about how luxurious Kyuden Doji and other Crane castles are. I was liking you Doji...Let's keep it that way....for now.

"Kyuden Bayushi is a magnificent structure. It is one of the best structures in the Scorpion lands. There is a certain rich mystique about. I have heard more about Kyuden Kakita as my mother was a Kakita. She did her training at Kyuden Doji. She is still quite the paragon of etiquette and dignity. Much of what I have learned about that, I learned from her."

That really didn't tell Fukawa much about Kyuden Bayushi, other than it was 'yuge' and 'tremendous'. Wait, why did the Scorpion feel the need to clarify that his mother 'still' a paragon of etiquette and dignity?


"Did your interest in the shamisan also come from her as well, or is that a gift from your father?" she asked, just making small talk as one might at a miai.

"Yes. My mother is a fan of the instrument as it was a favorite of the founder of that family. My father learned the instrument and thus taught it to me."

[Doji Fukawa]

Fukawa nods.

"And eventually you'll teach it to your descendants." Fukawa fills in. "A very nice family tradition, Bayushi-san, may it continue 10 generations or more."

She unfolds her fan, studying the inside.

"Although, speaking of paragons of etiquette and dignity, by missing the game night last night, you are also unburdened by the memory of what Moto Khulan and Matsu Nintoku were getting up to."

Not that he cared but...

"Do enlighten me." he said as he set his samisen down and popped his fan open. "Leave no details out." he said from behind the fan.

Fukawa opened her own fan to speak quietly behind.

"Well, of course, I wasn't watching them, but they made no effort to hide what they were doing. First, they were arguing, then they laid hands upon each other, and before I knew it, they were...well, kissing passionately, right there in front of everyone. Then they let go of each other and pretended nothing had happened. I know that a great deal of shame can be written off due to alcohol, but they came right over to where we were playing Sadane, and they didn't seem very impaired." she related.
