Shinjo Monkhbaatar is one of the newest graduates from the Shinjo school. He's not particularly notable for anything other than his energetic nature and his apparent luck. He seems to have quite the good fortune in his endeavors, truly blessed by the Ki-rin. His classmates actually spread rumors that he may even have blood from the mystical creatures in his heritage.

He is friendly and outgoing but his training did not really include a sense of propriety. He can tend to be overly familiar with people he doesn't know very well and seems to roll with corrections to his behavior rather than make apologies or excuses.

Akil is, well, pretty for a man. He does not have a strong frame like many bushi, and perhaps that is what contributed most to the injury that has essentially retired him from a soldier's life. He does not show off or discuss the injury often, but many Unicorn know exactly where it's from: taking a blow meant for the Otaku Daimyo during the return to Rokugan.

Akil is a calm, gentle man. He does not often brag about things or rush for credit (even when it is deserved). He prefers the flute on his left hip to the daisho on his right, though he knows how to use both. Like many of the Ide, he is starting to learn the customs of Rokugani life better, though he is certainly not picking up the little nuances near as fast as a Courtier might, and certainly still makes his fair share of mistakes. The words 'my apologies' are certainly never far from his lips when dealing with other clan samurai...

[Shinjo Liu Yue]

Appearance:

Liu Yue stands out in a crowd. She is larger than typical Rokugani but more importantly she is missing her left arm. The left side of her face is burned, the discoloration in her eye obvious. Still, she does not stand out fashion-wise from her other Unicorn. She tries to keep her appearance tidy to represent her family well. Her short hair is not by choice. Rather, much of it was lost after her injuries and since in the process of being regrown.

History:

Liu Yue came with the rest of her Clan in the Dark Ride. During the exodus, she suffered grievous injuries which necessitated in her being trained by the Moto instead. Rather than let it drag her down, this woman keeps her head tall. She is happy to say that though she is bloodied, she remains unbroken.

• She wields a tetsubo with one arm? Amazing stuff, huh?

[Iuchi Dong-Ha]

Name: Iuchi Dong-Ha

Appearance:
Stout, tall and tanned Dong-Ha bears the legacy of Ki-Rin’s journeys. His skin is bit too dark for a proper Rokugani samurai while his neatly combed hair is oddly thin as if woven from threads of silk. Beginnings of a beard and moustache frame his lips. Dressed in simple woollen robes and wearing variety of eccentric trinkets on his body, the young man stands few inches taller than the average Rokugani.

What is known
Those outside the Unicorn have not met Dong-Ha and would know very little. Most Unicorn would recognize the man as a meishodo shaman and might know that he is a son of a meishodo sensei by the name Iuchi Dong-Suk who claims lineage from Iuchi Nobane who has been credited for perfecting the art of meishodo.

Appearance:

Among the Unicorn Liu Fei does not stand out much, most of that attention is often directed toward her sister. With a build that suggests she is trained as a Bushi. Dressed in simple, sturdy, leather garments she aims for comfort and utility in most things. Including her hair which is well maintained even on a long ride. Liu Fei carries with her a sense of duty, one that seems to keep the woman focused on what needs doing.

History:

New to the Empire only Unicorn know of Liu Fei's past, and even then it isn't that great of a past to know. The elder sister of two Liu Fei is a largely, of yet, unexceptional Bushi serving her clan. Most notable is her sisters grievous injuries the woman managed to survive. Those that do know her, however, know that she is a woman that protects those who are close to her fiercely.

Horse: Gokiburi

A fine Unicorn war horse, not quite of the same caliber of the Otaku Battle Maiden's but certainly far superior to anything Rokugani have seen in quite some time. With a slightly off color black for it's fur the beast is as majestic as the plains it rides upon.

"Where's the Kitten?"

"No idea, Akodo-taisa. He went out on patrol early this morning and hasn't returned yet." The Matsu hohei looked thoughtful.

"Out with it, Matsu-san. If you have a problem with him or anyone in my command I need to know."

"Well, I know he's tiny and lithe and he moves like a cat and he has hair like a Kitsu . . . . but he really doesn't like that nickname . . . . . "

A hardened and embittered Gunso leans against a wall and watches a small ball of Matsu fury dismantle a target dummy. Eventually the boy runs out of steam and stares maliciously at the splintered wood while panting for air.

"Seems the Kitten was out on the right flank when the left flank got attacked." Muttered the equally hardened Nikutai. His Gunso nodded.

"Yup. He's still not seen any action then? Remarkable how he always misses out."

Yurio-kun,
I hope you are still bringing honour and glory to our name and lineage. I have heard you are being recommended for the Scout's school. Knowing you as I do, you're not taking that well. Remember that although there may not be much glory in the field, that you still follow Akodo's Way and perform a necessary deed for the armies. The Way of the Scout is not skulking in shadows like a pillow book Scorpion, but helping ensure the inevitable victory of the Lion armies.

Genzo-kun misses you and hopes you will be back for the Chrysanthemum Festival this year, and I hope little Neko has stopped clawing your armour stand by now.

[Doji Ameka]

Ameka is something of the stereotype of a delicate Crane princess. Her build gives the impression that a stiff wind might blow her away, and skin pale beyond the necessity of fashion. There is no cough or other indication of long-standing disease, however, and there is a fire in her blue eyes that belies something beneath the facade of typical Crane demure politeness. Determination and energy are written all over her body language, despite being barely more than an ephemeral wisp of a girl. The other notable, if subtle, aspect to her appearance is small patches of burn scars on her hands and calluses on the pads of her fingers.

She is usually dressed in the light blues of the Crane, fashionable, though her outfits tend to be a touch more practical than a courtier’s might be. She’s rarely seen without a small bag of sweets on her obi, from which she often produces intricate miniature flowers and animals rendered in sugar, giving them away for others to try.

Appearance:

Khulun is of mixed stock, the best of Rokugani and gaijin peoples and she is pretty. She likes to wear the furs and leathers of her people and eschews Rokugani styles. She prefers the company of her fellow Unicorn and Moto, she does not mesh well with those outside the clan, they seem too fragile and sensitive. She is a model of Moto etiquette.

History:

Khulun knows battle and her life is war, she has served with her Champion and daimyo and her uncle even honored her with a crimson steel katana named Massacre for her service to the clan. Her uncle is the clan daimyo, well one of many uncles and cousins which makes her something of a princess, a princess that feels at home in the savagery of battle.

[Yasuki Tae]

This is a woman of status, surely. Tae likes to wear traditional but high-quality clothing, eschewing more fleeting fashion fads for something more reliable. Nontraditionally, she actually has her hair cut above the shoulder, usually slicked back in some manner. There's usually an air of nonchalance about her, not really showing if she cares or not unless the situation calls for it. If one pays attention to her right arm, they can see a carp tattoo peaking out from under her sleeve. There might be more to the tattoo than that, but it's hard to tell.

Description:
Imane is still growing but the signs are there that she will become a woman of somewhat exotic beauty. Her hair is luxurious and dark, which offsets her smooth skin and bright eyes. At the tender age of 14 she acts more like a samurai-ko twice her age, although in the company of friends the mask slips from time to time. For those who are fortunate enough to hear her laugh it is rich and musical. She is virtuous, has a deep love of music and horses, and tends towards a striking honesty in her dealings with others. As a true Shiotome she is as comfortable in the saddle as on her own two feet and her sensei predicts big things in her future. Imane approaches the miai with curiosity, seeking the opportunity to learn more about her new home and its people.

In contrast to her short stature Imane is often accompanied by the biggest warhorse you have ever seen. It seems inconceivable that she could climb up onto it, let alone ride it into battle, but she does so with a practiced ease. The creature's name is 'Almatar' (Rainbow in Mekhem) and she delights in dying the mare's mane the colours of the rainbow. She claims this is what kept the shadows away on the Dark Ride...

• Do you speak Mekhem, the language of the Sands? If so you will know that her name means 'Faith' in that tongue.
• Are you musically inclined? If so we might share a tune together, although it won't be the sort of music you are used to.
• How do you feel about horses? Imane is hoping to find an honest upstanding gentleman, but if her horse doesn't like you look elsewhere.
• Curious about the most honourable family of the Unicorn? Polite conversation will usually arise. Just don't make a fuss about her height...

[Kakita Nanami]

A first glance at Nanami might confuse most; despite wearing the colours of the Crane (and the mon of the Kakita in particular) and bearing white hair draping nearly to her feet, Nanami doesn't carry herself with the air of most Crane (most non-Crane would be likely to call it haughtiness). The inclusion of a straw hat in her wardrobe draws further questions until one sees the mon of the Agasha representing her school of training.

Hooks and Such:

• In order to fulfill an obligation between the Crane and the Dragon, Nanami was sent to train with the Agasha when it became apparent that she heard the call of the kami. For that reason, she's spent a large portion of her life in Dragon lands.
• Of all the elements, Nanami favours the fire kami most of all - perhaps more so than most of those trained by the Agasha school; even the spells traditionally associated with the other elements tend to have a tinge of fire to them when Nanami calls upon the kami.
• Despite being trained as a shugenja, Nanami is a semi-talented blacksmith.
• Nanami has a nearly insatiable thirst for knowledge about history, both of Rokugan and the world beyond, and likes to tell stories from the history she already knows.

[Kaiu Hiroji]

Looks: Hiroji is a very tall young man who dresses in simple pragmatic clothes, favoring mobility and protection over looks. His hair is black and tangled, cut short and kept that way. He wears on his face a rather blank and peaceful expression, except when in highly social situations when a small, worried smile appears on his lips, like he's anxious and waiting for something bad to happen.

Personality: Hiroji is not much to words, and prefers other means of communication. Though he is by no means mute, he just finds it much more natural to not say much until you have something to say.
Duty, as it should, comes first and foremost to him. He goes about his assigned tasks as immaculately and perfectly as he can, be it killing, building or some other task, his face always displays a rocky expression of pure concentration.
In his free time Hiroji enjoys quiet and serene things. Beauty, to him, lies in stark nature and the elements. If not enjoying nature, Hiroji mostly drinks. When intoxicated he becomes rather more talkative and jovial, but he does his best to control himself.

[Shinjo Taichi]

Description
Cutting quite a dashing figure, Taichi carries himself with confidence wherever he goes. While the swagger to his step may be partially due to the large amount of time he has spent in the saddle, it can’t explain it completely. He wears either a very fine kimono that he picked up especially for the miai, or a somewhat foreign looking set of armour together with a metal targe, something not typically seen within the empire.

Background
A skilled student growing up, Taichi was given some minor responsibilities at a surprisingly young age, even for the roaming Unicorn Clan. This, together with the praise heaped upon him by his parents in the past helped to create the man that stands here now. Upon arrival in the Empire, he saw his chance. Learning from the mistakes of his Daimyo, he took it upon himself to learn all that he could of his Clan’s new home as fast as possible so that he could instruct the other Unicorn.
This… created a few problems. Not all of the clan were as ready to accept their new home as he, and tensions brewed. His method of method of instruction – leading by strong example – also seemed to cause issues for him. Seeing this, his lord thought that this miai would be the perfect way to help Taichi better join the two cultures together. Preferably quietly, and a little less enthusiastically.

[Otaku Chi-Pu]

Physical Description:
Chi-Pu forgoes the wear of a kimono and instead regularly wears brown riding leathers and a flowing purple tunic. Around her neck she wears a golden chain with an amulet of strange design hanging from it. At her waist she wears a traditional Rokugani Daisho, the handle of which is a deep purple in color with golden end caps. Her hair is long, black, and wind blown and her skin is a tanned brown. She wears makeup regularly, various colors of eye-shadows, blush, lipstick, and eye liner all expertly applied to accentuate her natural looks. She stands normal height, her body thin and athletic, muscles toned from years of training and hard work. Her eyes are a deep green, and she smells faintly of flowers despite spending many of her waking hours on her steed.

When dressed for battle, Chi-Pu dons a small back banner to denote her standing as a Nikutai, as well as the heavy Riding Armor many of the Unicorn are known to wear. She drapes a Dai-Kyu and quiver on her back and her Daisho at her side.

History (Common Knowledge to Unicorn or those who ask about her):
Otaku Chi-Pu was born on the first night the Ki-Rin arrived at the great Western Sea. Her parents named her with two characters: Chi, meaning "the appearance of swiftly moving water" and Pu, meaning "Very humble but has high morals, talented yet not a show off".

It was during the Dark Ride that Chi-Pu lived up to her name. Her inner willpower and sense of Honor lead her to be promoted to what most Rokugani would know as the rank of Nikutai, or second in command to her Gunso, and she did her best to not only lead her people when her Gunso was absent or otherwise engaged, but also be an example for those underneath her.

All who have traveled with Chi-Pu comment on her moral fiber. Many of her elders tell their grandchildren to look to Chi-Pu as an example of what leadership should look like, as well as how one can honor the values of Bushido.

She is not without her faults however. After a training accident conducting horseback archery, she noticably shakes every time she picks up her Dai-Kyu. Additionally, while she never shows off her talents, nor puts off an air of superiority, she is quite vain and takes great effort to maintain and upkeep her physical appearance. Finally, she is such a pure soul she can be told almost anything and believes it to be the truth, making her an easy target for rivals.

Despite her status, reputation, martial prowess, and relative beauty, Chi-Pu has yet to be married. She is friendly enough to the suitors she has had in the past, but as her family has never forced the matter Chi-Pu has never taken interest, turning away some of the greatest men of her Clan for no apparent reason. Now that the Ki-Rin have arrived in Rokugan, her family has decided it is time for her to marry despite her own feelings on the matter.

Tianma (Chi-Pu's Otaku Warhorse)
Tianma is a large steed like most of the Otaku steeds. She has a solid brown coat and a well kept mane. Her brown eyes are inquisitive and there seems to be a sort of special intellect in them. She listens to Chi-Pu without question or hesitation, and often the pair can be seen riding tricky obstacle courses or practicing horseback swordsmanship. When not in Chi-Pu's care, Tianma is kept in the stables with the rest of the Unicorn Clan's steeds.
